Since they don't operate in a push/pull mode (Class A/B), they don't need a phase inverter, right? Just thinking and dreaming about the Tiny Terror, and wondering how it can have any decent amount of gain with only 2 12AX7's, unless they're both preamp tubes, and one doesn't need to be a PI.

Class A can be push-pull, or can be single ended. Tiny Terror is push-pull.
Tiny Terror is not really class A, it's a warm class AB. They call it class A for marketing purposes 'cos that appeals to some players (most of whom also believe that the Vox AC-30 is calls A, which it ain't.)
Rev Jr OTOH... two 5881 tubes, 20W out - that's gotta be class A to keep the output that low! But Krank wouldn't make a feature of it 'cos class A ain't METAL (supposedly), which is the Rev Jr's target consumer group. (Caveat: I haven't seen Rev Jr schematic so don't quote me on it being class A...)
You can get plenty of gain from a 12AX7! Sometimes it's necessary to use a split-load to bring down the output level from the tube because to get 'nuff overdrive the gain has been made excessive.
And at a complete tangent to what you're really asking, it is possible to create a push-pull amp without a PI stage, it's called a self-inverting push pull (SIPP) topology. Basically like building a long-tailed pair with power tubes and taking the output straight from that. But that isn't how the TT does it. TT is pretty much an AC-15 powerstage.

Marcus, the Tiny Terror has plenty of gain. Period. :)

I'm getting either the TT or the Rev Jr. around December this year, I'm leaning towards the Orange because I love the smoothness of it, but the Krank has the raw Krank sound I long for.

Omega, thanks a ton dude! A lot of that is over my head, but I got the gist of it, and it makes a lot of sense! And I agree, I too always found it strange that the Rev Jr. could have a pair of 5881's (which as I understand it are directly interchangeable with 6L6's) and only make 20 watts, and I too have heard that Class A/B is better for metal (everyone I've heard from who has an amp with an A / A/B option always goes for the A/B, for example), but I don't doubt the TT and Rev. Jr. definitely deliver the goods, regardless of what class they are!

And Mike, I definitely don't doubt the gain potential, I was blown away when I played through one with a stock Les Paul (at a guitar store), it was more wondering if I'd be able to use my unbalanced Shuguang 9th gen. and Tung Sol 12AX7 in either of the slots. And do you think the Orange will be smooth? Cuz my impression was that it had a lot of that midrange bark/crunch that I lust for so very much...
