Orange Tiny Terror for Metal - Yay or Nay?

I totally love the character of the tiny terrors, gonna pick one up in the new year I reckon (my local shop has them brand new for £250)

Great for rock and as Marcus has shown they can do some great metal tone's with a TS in front. I do think they would benefit from either a proper eq or at least a fx loop so you could throw an eq pedal into that. I reckon I'll be hunting down an amp tech to mod mine and put one in.

If it's not volume you're after Vox do a pretty nifty 4watt valve amp for around £200 , I was considering the tiny terror aswell but then i tried them both in a shop and the Vox had me chosen as its buyer ;)
its got 3 adjustable powers (4watts, 1 watts and........ A QUARTER OF A WATT) needless to say I don't think I would ever use the latter, just a recommendation that I thought you might wanna check out

well the break up volume is pretty damn soon on 1 watt and a quarter of a watt as you can imagine and also doesn't feel like theres too much range on the 1/4 watt , but when you put it on 4 watts you'd actually be suprised how loud it is. One thing that may put you off is the lack of gain (if that's your thing) There was defintiely enough to play things like Fall of troy , the dillinger escape plan but then again they do have a suprisingly clean tone , as for bass response and the like I found it to be pretty damn tight considering its squeezing that bass out of a tiny little amp (must be very good ports) I found for my taste there wasn't loads of treble there was enough so that it wasn't piercing but I do like quite a 'sparkle' on my tone however it still to stand up to my expectations, the layout is also a bit nicer on the vox than the tiny terror with the tiny terror all you have is a bass and treble clef , that actually put me off a bit but obviously that wasn't the deciding factor.

NOTE: I'm talking about the combo version of both amps , you can get a vox4w head

Oh yeah, look at that - could've sworn I read it was more somewhere, but 90 is still ridiculous, especially for something without side handles; I'd much rather have a head and separate 2x12 for small gigs! (and I do :D Well, the cab anyway  )

I really like that tone, actually. I suppose a little honk could be dialed out, but the midrange character itself is quite nice.

Thanks dude - it's not so much the honk that bothers me, but rather the extreme dense stuffiness, but fortunately almost all of that was from the cab I used! (Mesa Stiletto, as I mentioned, blech :yuk: )

Ok... didn't have much time to tweak the tone and place the microphone, as its nearing 21:00 here, and I can't really piss the neighbours off too much!! So it's a little bright sounding than I'd personally prefer, but then again, I'm into quite dark sounding tones. The first riff is from one of my bands songs (called Sunday) and the 2nd riff is just an on the spot jobby.

Fat channel: Volume, 9 o'clock. Tone, 2:00 o'clock. Gain, 3 o'clock. No pedals used for this one, but you can definitely tighten it up with a TS.

Guitar: Gibson 'Orville' Les Paul, left handed. Pickups are Bareknuckle Nailbombs, and I'm using the bridge pickup here. Tuning is (low to high) CGCFAD.
Microphone: Rode M3 into a Profire 2626. Microphone is aimed just underneath the cap.

The noise you hear at the start is just a ground hum noise from the houses dodgy electrics. The amp is very quiet generally speaking; even at higher gain settings.

The 5150 combo was what led me to buy my first half stack. Those things need wheels.

This tone is too middy to be mix ready (because of the Stiletto cab), but I'm still pretty proud of the tone I got out of the amp otherwise  (2 tracks, with a TS in front, EMG81)
What song is that? It rings a bell (I even remember how it goes on) but I can't remember the name or the band

I have the Dual Terror; and it slays. Easily enough gain for metal. There is also this....

Some of the worst tones I've ever heard :p
