I met a drummer and he's quite good, real good. Able to play some slayer, etc. He's played metal for 3 or 4 years (black metal) but been playing Jazz for the last 2 or 3 years. We have tried playing together, he awesomly good, but we can see clearly his Jazz style, which is weird, but cool. We're making death melodic (children, wintersun, etc.) What should I do? Take him? or not?

I think you should answer your own question about that. Try him and see if his style works with what you want to accomplish in your band. You don't have much to lose. I can give you PERSONAL accounts of opposing styles that have worked in my experience and some that have not. Ask and you shall receive, but to be honest, every band and situation is different. There is absolutely no standard out there for what works and what does not.

As long as he's willing to play the kind of music you want to. I've met people who used to play metal but absoultely will not play it anymore, so if he's up for it waste no time!

I just found a drummer also. he is pretty good but only listens to nu-metal, slipknot, lamb of god... loves breakdowns and is trying to control the music my keyboardist and I write. We are gonna start bossing him around and if we get a bass player and/or lead guitarist that likes real metal then we will over power his ass and stop the nu-metal shit.

so yeah, you should keep him and just try to tell him what to play in a way.

that he likes numetal doesnt have to be a bad thing if you can get him into playing what you want. did you notice who played drums on Satyricons US-tour? it was the slipknot-guy. :D
the drummer in my band actually is a Punk-guy :D but hes good and also likes metal, so no problems here :Spin:

We forced our drummer into submission started out listening to pussy Shadows Fall/EMOcore shit, now hes replaced Killswitch/In Flames with Pestilence and Dekapitator!! Eventually this dude will surrender or if he is the control freak type (Never met a drummer that was) he will leave... Chances are he will enjoy good music eventually until then keep pressuring him to listen to good bands (in your opinion not his obviously) and Name drop constantly if he likes a riff you write, say yeh it sort of sounds like [insert band name here] even if it doesnt really sound like that band. It helps believe me.

Yeah, but the Slipknot dude is not so bad, even if he's playing New-Metal. I think he's a good drummer, not the best, but good.

Yes, but he also shaves his eyebrows, wears a mask, and is in a band whose title includes the word "doll."

Take him. Jazz in a drummer is nearly impossible to find, you can "dial in" his style with time.

I would take him dude, I would lovingly loob him up and take him relentlessly for 3 days until he couldn't take it any more!! :tickled:

No seriously man, give the guys a chance, I find singers and drummers are the most difficult breed to come by. Drummers especially need special treatment as they all fucked in the head (and that's a fact!!!)
