question concerning the Icelandic metal scene

does anyone know anything about the metal scene in Iceland? How does it compare with its eastern counterparts? Lots of black metal?

I ask this because I'm considering studying abroad there next Fall semester.

You forgot the best Icelandic band called Tyr, they play great viking/folk metal.
Tyr - 2003 - Eric the Red is definitely worth checking out.

åh yes, sorry me, that's right that Finntroll is not the band I would notice first from Finland, nor Bathory when it comes to Sweden, matter of tastes I guess, Black Metal.

You are wrong! They aren't from Iceland. They are from the Faroe Islands.
