Been feeling a little disheartened with my results lately with the Zilla cab, been blaming it on the cab and not my lack of patience haha. Anyway, after having some time away from it I came back to it today, with a completely fresh approach, and I'm rather happy with the results!

Any thoughts? Sorry it's only the first few seconds, but I'm still playing around as we speak. It's also only 2 of the tracks, not all 4 rhythms (in the interest of speed).

The amp was unboosted, btw, just straight in.

This sounds pretty fucking cool, especially for being an un-boosted tone. There's something a little scratchy/stiff in the upper mids but that could be the EL34's - how new is the cab? Could also be speakers needing to be broken in.

Thanks guys. I'm still not 100% happy with the cab, and have been thinking strongly about trading it.

The cab is brand new, only just got made 2 months ago. It's funny you mentioned the upper mids, as I think there's generally a peculiar tone with the upper mids on this cab. It seems that no matter how I mic it, how I EQ my amps, where I put it in a room, it just doesn't sound right. V30's have that quack/honk/whatever you want to call it; that nasal midrange that helps then poke out in a mix. This cab just doesn't have that. It's really low-mid centric, and almost hollow in the upper mids, and if you try to counteract that by mic'ing closer to the cap, or closer to the grill cloth, or by brightening your amp settings, you just get more fizz/hiss. It's been quite difficult. Especially with my Recto, holy shit it HATES that thing  They certainly do not go well together.
