RIP cliff....

he would be ashamed if he saw what metallica is today

one of the greatest bassists ever!!! :kickass:
One of the greatest ever? Hmmmm.... seriously doubt, but yes he was good.

Definitely one of the most influential musicians within the metal genre. Definitely ahead of his time when he was alive. Who would he be now - we'll never know. The guy is fucking dead. He may not even be playing music today, or maybe he would've kept James and Lars in check, or maybe he would be sucking right beside the abovementioned duo. He made his mark and may he rest in peace.

Cliff was my biggest influence as far as bass playing went when I was a kid, I learned all of the bass lines on the first 3 Metallica albums, and jumped around my bedroom pretending to be him. Cliff was an individual, he didn't follow trends, and he gave Metallica their groove. It's that groove that's sadly lacking from And Justice for all.

Cliff wrote heaps of stuff on the Ride The Lightning and Master Of Puppets albums (easily their best work) and wrote most of 'To Live Is To Die' on Justice. I know it's easy to look at someone through rose coloured glasses when they're gone, but I really honestly feel that Metallica lost their 'cool' when Cliff died. I don't think he was technically the best bass player ever, but he had a great individual style that I loved.

I can't believe he's been dead 20 years, it makes me feel hella old.
