I think the reason why maiden has three guitarists now is because Janick Gers replaced Adrian Smith then Adrian Smith came back in the fold in I think 2000. What is maiden going to do kick out the other guy who has been in the band for awile. Something like that would not be exactly fair. It seems like they compromised as one big family.

If you can't tell how much better guitarists Adrian Smith and Dave Murray over james and kirk you're not listening right.
