Since i always jam with that song by RAG MEN (hardcore/metal/punk band feat. members from MERAUDER/MADBALL/EARTH CRISIS) called "Insomnia", i decided to record a quick guitar cover and see how my guitar tone works for it since my own songs can be somewhat similar in terms of style at times.
So basically this is the original mix, with the original guitars, and i added my own guitars, 2 guitars (one middy, one scooped), hard-panned on each side. I couldn't remove the original guitars so you still hear the original guitars slightly in my version, but then again my guitars are predominant. I used Voxengo's MSED plugin to mute the sides, it sure helped but you can still hear some of the original guitars.
I'm still using my trusted EMG81/85-loaded Schecter Hellraiser C1-FR, plugged directly into ENGL SE 6L6 with the Torpedo VB-101, which is a hardware loadbox+cab/mic/miking simulator (see other related threads here : http://www.ultimatemetal.com/forum/...-101-hardware-loadbox-cab-mic-miking-sim.html)
Keep in mind the clip is sloppily played, with some awful mistakes at times This is just a tone test for kicks, nothing meant to be released or anything like that.
Clips (one with the full mix, one with guitars only) and detailed signal chain info can be found here :

Let me know what you guys think.
EDIT : by the way, this time i went with the following cab/mic combo :
-cab : Marshall 4X12 Slash Signature V30 with open back
-mic : BeyerDynamic M160N (ribbon)
In the Torpedo i like the open back version of that cab better than the regular one, which i found surprising at first.
