Raleigh Area Run Down....

http://www.lincolntheatre.com/
Think 9.30 club, but a tad smaller...old converted movie theater, very nice sound and site lines.

http://www.berkeleycafe.net/
Had really forgotten about this club years ago as no show of interest ere really there....Interesting to find out the guy who owns it owned the Lake Boone Country Club as he would bring in good shows occasionally (saw Monster Magnet there years ago)

http://www.the-pour-house.com/index.cfm
Do not remember having seen a show here of real interest but, one never knows...just might not have seen it, never been there.

Funny...but i too thought it closed in 2004....they guy who owned Planet Rock in Jacksonville also owned this back then and after (from what I understand) botching the Iced Earth show at Planet Rock...both sites disappeared and I never gave them another thought....in any event, very small club., downtown...from what i remember *been at least 5 years), not a great place, but been at worse....seems to be different owner when re-opened but do not know that for sure.

WOW! :OMG: Good job, YOU! Thanks for all that!!

The Berkley in Raleigh actually a fair amount of good shows, but mostly locals.
King's does not exsist any longer. They mostly did what The Berkley does and a few biggers here and there. I saw Nevermore and In Flames there many years ago.I don't believe that The Brewery and Planet Rock were connected in any. The Brewery in fact was pretty legendary at one time. Through the 80s it saw a lot of big acts. The 90s faired as well. Once owner ship changed over a few years back it has quickly went downhill. Now not much metal unless you consider the screamo stuff metal. And word is those bands are turning away from there.
The Licoln does occassionally get something like Opeth or Lacuna Coil in but not to often. The show coming up soon was a total surprise. And Vol.11 is starting to get bigger acts in. Nice place but the sound leaves something to be desired. Their biggest problem besides the sound may be advertising. The To/Die/For show was a bad turn out. Still the club is extremely nice and very nice staff.
Cat's Cradle does not have any metal, really no rock either. The Cheap Trick show I believe was atleast five years ago. At one time it was a nice place for metal or good punk bands. But that was about 10 year ago. Now just hippie chicks with accoustic guitars. However I was there last weekend to see Stan Ridgeway. And was going back to see a band called Dragonship from Chapel Hill.
Tremont in Charolette is mostly punk stuff like the Milestone down there. Tremont had Blind Guardian in there and it was not a good turn out. Word is the club lost a lot of money that night. Odds are it will not happen again. And just to add, Leaves Eyes is an extremely boring band live. Although things may be changing down that way. A friend off mine does a lot of shows there and Into Entterity and Destruction were brought to the Milestone. And Celtic Frost and Type O to Tremont. Yet Symphony X was skipped. So I guess you can put it together.
There are other places here and there that get small surprises in. But you really have to pay attention as to not mess it. The N Club in Greensboro gets acts that can't pack the House of Blues. So if you like rock bands, Firehouse, Pat Benatar, Eddie Money come through there. Then there is the Local 506 in Chapel Hill, odd things pop up there like Witchcraft and Blue Cheer.
So really North Carolina is not that bad. I have seen worse areas. But metal especially here is underground. You really need to be in the scene to know what is going on and were to go. If you are just a guy who goes out to see the big name magazine cover band like a Nevermore or Opeth then you will miss out on a lot. Not only locals and small names but bigger shows too. So get into the scene i would suggest.

cool, my wife and I just bought a house in Raleigh, it looks like the Raleigh scene is a lot more active than DC. I'm even thinking about getting back into it if I can find something interesting.

They completley re-did the sound at the brewery about a two years ago and is much improved, it no longer hurts to see a show there. Cool little place, that's walking distance from NC State campus. Like Berkely mostly locals with some small national acts, kinda like a steping stone for shows at bigger venues in the area. Good place to check out.

Really far removed from metal these days. Unless you're into metlacore/emo stuff. The club is a far cry from the Minor Threat shows of the 80s or Napalm Death shows of the 90s. I can't remember the last thing I saw there. Maybe Metal Church two years ago? No, wait my friend tony "Dio" had a B-day party there. But personally I think I preferred it under the old ownership when I was putting shows in there.
Still I will be there next Wedsday to see Twisted Tower Dire and Gates of Slunber.

I think the one you are referring to is the Carolina Theatre in Durham. Very nice place to see a show, have some Jazz artists coming up (John McLaughlin, Pat Metheny) and has a lot of first run, independent films shown there as well.

I've often thought that would be a great place to hold a ProgPower Carolina if we ever could get one organized in this area. Seats about 1,000 in the Fletcher Hall Auditorium with a second floor balcony section and the stage itself is pretty deep, good amount of room there.

For those of you into music collecting, I help promote a couple shows in your area. We always have a good selection of nearly all genres of music on hand, with vendors from all over the eastern U.S. Admission is free, show hours are 10am to 5pm.

Nov 10, 2007: Greensboro NC: Holiday Inn Express, I-40/Bus. 85 at East Lee St., exit 128/41.

Nov 11, 2007: Raleigh, NC: Holiday Inn, I-440 Beltline at Glenwood Ave. (U.S. 70), near Crabtree Valley Mall.
