RANT: Crap Keyboards

I actually thought that the keyboards on Oath Bound were quite tasteful, but obviously overly ambitious as has been the norm for them. You can only do so much in a two man band by yourselves.

Exactly, they can't do anything about it. They don't have the money to finance such a huge project. Take them for what they have, they're still fucking incredible.

Bands should bring a grand piano right into the studio. Imagine a grand piano and guitars naturally acoustic played really fast with blast beats including bells and windchims. If you are walking in the dark at night and hear windchims it's pretty creepy. A cold night is extra cold with windchims.

I thought this was going to be about keyboards for typing...

Trivia:When Queen recorded "A night at the Opera", it was the most expensive album ever recorded up to that date because they imported all the instruments heard on the album. There are no synths. They had grand pianos harps, all sorts of stuff shipped to the studio. They even refused to use effects on the vocals and instead would tons and tons of vocal tracks to create effects. I read somewhere that when they recorded the song " The Prophet song" they recorded so many vocal overdubs the tape was transperant.

Keyboards are almost always terrible. Exceptions include Summoning, Bathory and Weakling. Exceptions do not include Emperor or other "tasteful" symphonic bands. Fuck off.

Eh, I can see the argument about Oath Bound. It's just oversaturated. I really like "Let Mortal Heroes" though, which is pretty much ALL keyboards. At least it doesn't make the pretense of being black metal.

Don't worry I just have a chip on my shoulder where Summoning are concerned, some day I might change my mind but right now they do nothing for me (and its not just the keys).

+1 Joe, +1 :kickass:

I love Oath Bound and Summoning. Their compositions (especially on that album) are just amazing. Although it would be amazing to hear them with a real orchestra, I still love them the way they are.

No actually their first album is extremely dark death metal, and I think for some reason you're overlooking it or something?

It is dark, but not the darkest, and even the band says that the Chronicles is their darkest.

Let's stop arguing about something so overwhelmingly subjective as the ability of music to affect the feeling of darkness in a listener and which album most accomplishes this before we makes ourselves out to be asses, shall we?
