rare prog from early 70s

well if a friend of yours has a tv card and can watch tv on his/her computer, then you can record the whole thing right away.
I don´t know anyone who has got a tv-card, but I think even if I should record it "only" on video-tape and then copy it onto a DVD, the quality won´t be too bad.

What do you guys think of Howe Gelb related bands like Giant Sand, OP8, Friends of Dean Martinez, Calexico etc?

Pineapple Thief are mostly meh. There are so many atl. rock bands with similar aesthetic that are much better. They just don't come with the prog. label I guess.

If I noticed correctly, Kraut rock is also considered a subgenre of prog rock, so this might fit in here:
About 2 months ago there was a "Rockpalast Kraut Rock Special" aired on WDR Fernsehen which had been recorded in December 2004 and featured half an hour of each of the following bands: Birth Control, Epitaph, Guru Guru, Karthago, Amon Düül II and Peter Panka´s Jane. I had read about some of these bands before (in the German magazine Eclipsed), but I hadn´t heard anything by them so far, so, out of curiosity, I decided to record this programme on videotape. While I wasn´t impressed by all of the stuff, I did like Birth Control, followed by Peter Panka´s Jane and also some Amon Düül II.
Since I don´t know if they just showed their best (or maybe most "commercial") songs on TV, I´ll post the titles of the songs I saw, so anyone who might know these bands can tell me which of their albums might be worth having a closer look at:

Birth Control:
Just Before The Sun Will Rise
Back From Hell
Gamma Ray

Peter Panka´s Jane:
Daytime
Medley: Windows/Spain
Out In The Rain

Amon Düül II:
Archangels Thunderbird
Green Bubble Raincoated Man
Deutsch Nepal
Speed Inside My Shoes
All The Years ´Round
Kanaan

Just for the sake of completeness, this is what you got to see/hear of the other three bands:

Epitaph:
Woman
Big City
Fresh Air
Reflections
Tequila Shuffle

Guru Guru:
Living In The Woods
Izmiz
Kleines Pyjama
Moshi Moshi
Der Elektrolurch

Karthago:
Burning Fire
Rock´n Roll Testament
In The Midnight
Queen Of The Night

(Since I hadn´t heard any of these songs before, I can´t tell in how far they might have differed from the original studio version. One also has to consider that now most of the musicians, at least if they are original band members, are in their fifties or sixties, so I guess their live-performance way back in the seventies might have looked/sounded a bit different.)

my fav. kraut bands are birth control, agitation free, neu and amon dull II.

i highly recommend further checking those out if you wish.
After watching the 3 live songs from the Rockpalast-show again and listening to a few samples on their website, I think I should start with Birth Control, either with the album which contains "Just Before The Sun Will Rise" or the one with "Gamma Ray" (I think www.progarchives.com will be helpful in this regard) - or would you advise differently?

I love you.

thanks so much loozy, you remembered! youre the best! :) :) :)

on another note, im listening to the new Porcupine Tree right now. Amazing album. arguably the most diverse, progressive and interesting single album theyve done to date. Emotion, melody, aggression, creativity, beauty, etc. its all here. top tracks right now: lazarus, mellotron scratch, and arriving somewhere but not here.
