rare prog from early 70s

Hey guys. I was just wondering if you could help me find a few new (but old, if you get what I mean) bands to listen to. I'm into music with dark/bleak lyrics but not really Black Metal. More like Animals ("bleating and babbling I fell on his neck with a screeeeeam.")
I'm also trying to get into the more medieval-influenced stuff like In The Court Of The Crimson King the song. If anyone could suggest bands in either of these two categories, or a combination of the two, I'd be really happy.

circulus pretty much kills both those birds with one stone. i recommend giving them a shot. not as grandiose an atmosphere as king crimson, but they are essentially a medieval tinged dark psych folk band.

otherwise give a band called "celeste" and a band called "museo rosenbach" a shot. celeste being very similar to king crimson, and the latter being quite dark and brooding, while maintaining a great melodic sensibility and classic progressive feel.

Got Popol Vuh - Hosianna Mantra

Beautiful, peaceful music with almost Gilmour-esque guitar. Thanks for the heads up NFU.

well for discussion sake... i know Van Der Graaf Generator gets a lot of praise... they're like the first 'highly' regarded prog band i can hardly stand... i'm not sure what it is... i've heard Pawn Hearts... maybe i should give something else of theirs a chance, but that seems to be their opus according to most folks

just...wow.

if you can say that after listening to "house with no door"...then the genre probably isnt for you, just fyi afaict.

you don't consider the vocals overbearing/corny in the least? it's not all the time, I liked Pilgrims... I mean the music is fine, but christ, every 5 seconds seems to be a big open mouth exaggerated vibrato yell

maybe it'll warm up to me or i'll appreciate it more some time in the future but honestly

what's with the genre comment btw?

p.s. I've only heard an album and a half of theirs so far
