its really truly sad we have to "bump" this thread without any positive text being continued.
yet the moonfuckingsorrow thread gets like 20 hits a day with a bunch of children praising their "greatness". this forum makes me ill sometimes.

Where in Southern California is a good record store to buy CDs (not online)? You've linked to some stores before. Do they have physical counterparts, or are there other stores around that are nice?

I dunno how the LA one is, but the SF one is pretty great... though I've been looking there lately for some prog vinyls and they don't have the best selection. They have atleast a few albums from some of the bands mentioned here but they don't even have that many King Crimson ones.. weird.

the LA store has quite a bit of progressive vinyl available. the SF store has a better CD selection, for whatever reason.

i know there are alot of prog junkies here like myself so iv got a question
im looking for something in the vein of magma, shub-niggurath, univers zero and weidorje. just really dark, scary and unpredictable, preferably from the late 60's or 70's thx.

the amount of "really dark" bands of that vein and that time is pretty far and few between. however if you havent heard akasha yet, then give them a try.

avoid? not at all really. however some albums are a lot better than others. since this is the Opeth forum, everyone seems to be taking the plunge with the "nosferatu" album first since they use some of the material live for their intro. however id probably start with Hosianna Mantra or Seligpreisun. Theyre a bit more "musical" and well rounded id say, since they werent for a dark movie soundtrack obviously.

NFU, you mean Opeth's live intro? I always wondered what that was, I just assumed Opeth wrote that little part. I'll have to check out this band.

I don't know much about Popul Vuh but I did introduce my friend James to them, he's an awesome musician (learned to play a sitar in like two weeks or something), and he seems to like them, he's really into to soundscapes and stuff and Popul Vuh are his kind of thing so, if you not so much a fan of muisc as you are "sound" then you'll probably like them.
