Really into this bass tone

Pretty sure Bulb uses a POD for bass tones (POD Farm I guess), but the guitars are definitely Axe FX ever since he bought one.

Umm, why don't you just ask Bulb himself? He isn't some big headed celebrity that doesn't take the time to answer questions, he's a chill guy, just ask him if you're that interested.
He's the only guy that knows specifically what goes into his mixes.

You sure it's not just the tuning and tight playing that you like? The grit is quite grainy sounding, and the bass itself has virtually no low-end.

Try this:

I'd say those tones are really well blended but the clanky-ness of the bass in absolomb is what grabbed me.. yeah, now that you mention it, the lows do sound lacking at times..

faack.. now THAT's a bass tone!
Pretty nice blend still...
(though a little too loud for my tastes :p)
found ur ideal bass yet?

Well for a moment I had considered getting the one that Fieldy uses, but I think the Ibanez BTB might just be the closest thing to an ideal off-the-shelf bass at a very reasonable price point. The specs are near perfect on paper.

Anyway, enough derailing from me. Enjoy the thread, guys!

(But before I go, I leave you with some clanky-ness from yours truly, just in case it hasn't been spammed enough over the last year: http://dl.dropbox.com/u/285689/Music/Untruth - Drones.mp3
jump over to 2:16 for the full effect!)

I definitely like the low tuning and of course the tight playing, but I also kind of like that the low end isn't overpowering, which is one of the main problems I have with my mixes. I love the bass sound on DEI though, it adds a ton but doesn't like blend together with the guitars like a lot of stuff.
