Hey guys i was thinking the other day how cool it would be to compare a raw guitar track recorded by andy or some of the other pro guys on this fourm and one recorded by me just to see the difference in quality. I was thinking there is no accurate way to do this unless i had the exact same track as we all no the difference in guitar/pickup/strings/plectrum/player can be quite substantial.

Soooo i propose that we upload some pretty decent d.i clips (say 20 sec clips of a few different styles) that people can reamp and post their results and see how they stack up against everyone else it could be a great way to improve your guitar micing skills.

It would be realy cool if we got some heavy weights (james, andy, some of the other many people who get killer tone on this fourm) to give it a try also.

We just need to agree on what the sample D.i's will be used and what range of styles should be covered within the sample d.i's.

D.I's Submitted so Far

And the same tubes:loco: ha well if you wanted the very same sound yes buts not everyone has the same amp so im just trying to get everyone on as much as a level playing pitch as i can for the comparison. Also i think it would be cool way to hear the character of some amps you dont own but other people do.

cobhc how do you get your di's to sound good like that. When i stuck them into revalver mk3 they sounded class, yet any di's i try just sound fuzzy and weak?

Jesus, you're kidding me? Lol. Can't check out the clip cos I'm at work, but all I did was run the RedEye into my Delta1010LT, and hit record in cubase. I think I could do better with some better pickups, new strings, and some better tracking. I think the pickups on my Les Paul are on their way out to be honest, hence why I'm surprised you guys think the DI's sound good. I guess it's all down to the RedEye, I don't have an expensive guitar, pickups, or preamp. The only decent quality part of the chain is my Planet Waves cables, and the RedEye.

I shall do some much better DI's when I come back off vacation at the end of September, because I will have Seymour Duncans fitted in my Les Paul then.

I gave both sets of DI's (cobhc and actofvengence) a shot with the 6505 and Krank Rev. First is cobhc 6505, then cobhc Rev, then actofvengence 6505 and then actofvengence Rev. I spent no more than 10 seconds on mic placement (same mic placement for both amps) but you still should be able to get an idea of the differences between the amps and also the difference that different DI's (guitar/pickup/player/DI) can make. actofvengence you need to track your DI's a bit hotter also. No post processing on the samples, not even HP/LP, just raw "as-recorded". Kick ass riffs too cobhc.

Actofvengence's tracks are first btw dude. :) Both tracks sound sweet man, I prefer mine with the 6505 I think. Same with Actofvengences, as both seem smoother and higher gained to my ears. And those riffs are just random shit I thought up at the time haha, nothing special, unless you're thinking of Actofvengence's, not mine lol.

Also, I'm assuming this was ran through a tube screamer as well?

Thinking about it, if you got the rest of it confused, do you think I'm the one who should track his DI's hotter?

Here's two sets.

Set 1 is as tracked with some bottom end compression only.

Amps: Rev1 and 5150 or Rev1 and Dorado (Refer to clip name)
Cab: Cobra 4x12
Speakers/Mics: V30-trion7000 and Greenback-atm650 mixed with my super-duper mic mixing config.

Set 2 is Set 1 with a bit of EQ and Reverb

Set 1:
cob Rev1-01 Dorado-07.mp3

cob Rev1-03 5150-04.mp3

act rev1-10 Dorado-11.mp3

Set 2:
cob Rev1-03 5150-04 eq rvb.mp3

cob Rev1-01 Dorado-07 eq rvb.mp3

act rev1-10 Dorado-11 eq rvb.mp3

Cheers...

They all sound really good to me.

Cobhc, I am probably confused. In my clip, the second riff (samples 3 and 4)was the one that could be tracked hotter, whoever played that.

We were supposed to post RAW samples like the Title of the thread weren't we? No, EQ, comp, etc...? :loco:
