I normally select a time region before inserting midi, but sometimes I need to extend the midi region. When I drag the right side to extend it always creates a loop. I know it's probably a simple setting but I can't find it.
you need to double click the midi item and inside the midi editor, grab a bar at the end of the clip and drag it out to extend where the "End" point is.
the "gay"ness im referring to is that this basic functionality of extending vs looping is kinda split up and packed away in two different windows.
From what i remember of Logic, if you wanted to extend the item, you just click and drag on its edge, if you want to loop then you hold a modifier key while dragging. all super easy and quick.
Reaper kind makes you dance back and over between 3 windows to sort that stuff out.

If you want this to be the default behaviour just go to "Preferences" (Ctrl+P), select "Defaults" (left menu) and uncheck "Loop source for imported items" and "Loop source for new MIDI items".
If you want to make a shortcut for this just find "Item Properties: Loop item source" on the Actions menu and set a shortcut for it.
AHA! I knew it was something simple like this but hadn't figured it out yet. I always just grabbed the handle and dragged it out as far as I needed to. Thanks!
