Reasons why PP7 isn't sold out yet?

I think it will no doubt sell out and with less than 30 tix left you can really all but call it a sell out. Apart from the US not really getting behind this or any other music that isn't spoon fed down there thoat, the line up is not as good as those of past PP IMO. Don't get me wrong, for me the stand outs are Pyramaze and Vision Divine, both of which I would love to see. Although I understand that the Evergrey proformance will be somewhat unique to PP they have still been here several times before. Then you have Jorn who I think is a great singer if not one of the best. However, as a solo act I am not all that fond of his stuff. Masterplan yes, SOLO, not so much. Shame about masterplan. Then I agree that Epica is a good draw but I think it stops there. Savage Circus is a BG clone period and they won't even have the BG drummer. Thunderstone is a masterplan wannabe and the rest of the line up is made up of bands that most people in the know would still say "who"?.

For gods sake, the pre party looks more promising than the main show.

THIS IS JUST MY OPINION. Having said all that, this is still the best freaking festival in all of the Americas and I am thankful to Glen for putting it on regadless of what fools like me think.

I disagree. In terms of the general public, most people would say "who?" to *any* of the bands that play ProgPower. But I don't think that's the case among die-hard fans or "people in the know". There have been various bands on ProgPower rosters whose music I didn't know very well, but there's never been a single one who I had never heard of, or didn't have a general idea of their sound.

What I love the most is that there are only a handful of tickets left and I'm still deemed a failure this year. Any other festival here would kill to have this type of failure.

Oh well...

Let it be know that I do not concider this show a failure. Like I said, with less than 30 tickets you may as well call it sold out. As far as I am concerned, you have accomplished what you set out to do and I applaude you for that. I know it must be difficult to hear the nay sayers like myself at times but you push on in spite of that and that is why you are sucsefull at what you do.

Regarless if I like the line up or not, this is still the best show going that I know of. Keep doing what you are doing bro. inspite of armchair critics like myself. You have my respect as a promoter of the best metal festival around. :kickass:

There were plenty of forum members that had no idea who Thunderstone were or who wastfall was when they were unveiled. I am sure there are those like yourself who are more aware than others.

I don't care if progpower doesnt sell out or not, im just happy to be able to attend a festival like this and see bands that I love, know them or not. It's a treat unlike any other imagineable for me.

It's simple. The festival needs starpower to sell out quickly, but (as shown by this year's near sellout sales), the festival itself is strong enough in reputation to still draw tons of fans from all over the globe even without starpower. I have not seen any evidence to the contrary that this is still the premier metal festival in the U.S. today.

Because your mom hasn't bought her ticket yet. No, not my mom. My mom has her ticket. if all of you brought your mom it would surely sell out

Because the US sucks when it comes to understanding good music.

If you had worded this differently, the comment may have had some merit. Perhaps something like, "the music business in the U.S. is made up of people who cater to image and popularity rather than focusing on the strength of the songs and skill of the musicians".

But unfortunately the way your comment is worded makes you sound like nothing more than a common troll.

I have been doing my part. PP4 there were me and 3 others, PP5 there were me and 4 others, PP6 there were me and 5 others, this year it will be me and 7 others, plus I am still working on another one.

Amen...I've said this before, but most promoters don't even let you know how many tickets have been sold. You just kind of have to judge when you get there and go "wow, good crowd" or "eh, kind of empty". Had we not have known the ticket sales beforehand the 30 people missing would not even be noticed. I applaud you not only for the festival, but providing us with the interesting information about ticket sales.

Well, here's what I think. I think the reason the festival hasn't "officially" sold out yet is because of star power too. That's all left up to what you consider star power though. I don't think it has a thing to do with the two headliners though, meaning Evergrey and Jorn. I think it lies more or less with the other bands on the roster. Particularly Thunderstone, Epica, and Savage Circus. There are better bands out there that are doing what these bands are trying to do. The thing is, those bands are extremly difficult for Glenn to get these days due to U.S. touring, refusing to respond to his inquirys, etc. This ISN'T Glenn's fault by the way, it's just how things are now.

With all of that said, I'm going to state what I've been willing to do for the past couple of years. This will be my third year in attendance and each year there have been bands that I "thought" I didn't like. So, what I've done is explored those bands and have given their stuff a fair listen or shot. For example Evergrey is one of those bands for me. When I bought my ticket this year, I didn't care for the band at all! I've been exploring the band now for a month or so, and I'm really into them now. After watching A Night To Remember last weekend, I'm totally pumped about their set in September! If they perform like that, then they'll kick our asses for sure!!!:kickass:

Basically, what I'm trying to say is, try to look into the bands you're not familiar with and give them a fair listen. If you don't dig them, fine, but at least the band had a fair shot with you. Most likely you'll hear or see something that you'll like though. I've become a fan of three bands that before I didn't even listen to before ProgPower. Those three bands are Tad Morose, Brainstorm, and most recently, Evergrey.

Darn right! I'll wager those tickets sell by 9/15!

If this year is a failure with only a handful of tickets left, then duhhhhhh, what do you people consider all the other festivals here in the USA that have twice or three times the tickets available and sell less than what ProgPower has sold. Okay it didn't sell-out in 72 hours, SO WHAT!!!!!! It will sell out trust me , and everyone who attends this year will have a fabulous time, and all who don't well it's your loss. Glenn as usual it's a killer line-up, and yes it may not appeal 100% to everyone again i say SO WHAT!!!!, you have put together 10 totally diverse bands that are going to blow the roof off of Center stage or whatever they call it now. And i say thanks you again and again.

IMO, this is the best 2 night lineup Glenn has put togetrher since I've been attending PPUSA. I was at IV, V, and VI, and only attending a single night each time. This year, I will go both nights AND the PSP as well! Hail to a job well done, Glenn!

You are correct inspector gadget, I am a troll. How did you ever manage to solve that mystery? Well, I guess now that I have been found out after all this time, it is time for me to move on to another forum. Darn.

Listen here “Dark One”……….

First of all, your comments argument about the music industry in no way reflects my argument about the buying public of this country and therefore has no merit as far as I am concerned.

My issue is not with the music industry as they are a business and like any business they will shell out anything that some poor sucker is willing to buy. My issue is with the dumb ass shmucks of this country that are willing to lap that shit up like a lost puppy to a fresh dish of milk.

So you see, your revision of my comment, although written well and with more finesse and eloquence than mine, really didn’t even come close to expressing what I was expressing. You obviously are a more intelligent person than I and have a superior command of the English language than I do. I am not surprised however because after all I am just a common troll.

I do have to say though that my original comment was definitely more METAL than yours. After all, this is a metal forum, but unfortunately the way your comment is worded makes you sound like nothing more than a common nerd.

Maybe there are non-musical reason why people are passing this year.

I'm not crazy about the price of travel this year (car or flight).
Thank goodness the festival has a loyal and partly local fanbase!

yeah, I've already had to cancel two of my road trips this spring/summer (one to Dallas, TX and one to Indy, IN) for the cost of gas alone. If ProgPower USA were being held much farther than 25 miles from me, I'd have to consider giving it up this year as well.

Personally, I believe this is the single biggest factor concerning the show not selling out yet. The lineup is amazing as it is every year, and as always I am only concerned with about half the roster myself. Sure, I'm a Nevermore fanboy and I am very disappointed they had to cancel. But seeing the reactions of the different factions of folks to their favorite performers, I've never seen this crowd so jacked! :kickass:

Kudos to Glenn! :notworthy

'F' the naysayers!
