Reasons why PP7 isn't sold out yet?

Because your mom hasn't bought her ticket yet. No, not my mom. My mom has her ticket. if all of you brought your mom it would surely sell out

That's awsome! This is why I love Texas and Texas ladies! :kickass:

There was one dude that got it and said I hit the nail on the head. That Milton dude said that understanding music wasn't the only thing the US sucked at and you didn't get all bent with him. I may be a snob, I just wished that the type of music that Glen showcases at his Festival would garnish more attention and props than what it gets. If that makes me a snob a troll or a dick so be it.

Not at all - and believe it or not I agree with much of what you're saying, I just didn't care for the way you generalized everything in your first post, particularly in light of the fact that many of my friends are U.S. citizens and are every bit as into the bands you and I love (it just felt like you were lumping "all" of us into that category you know?).

Anyway, there are a lot more people here who enjoy music by bands that you and I consider meaningful than you may think, they just don't have as loud a voice as those that back the type of poppy, trendy music that you and I would care to see less of. Personally, I blame the unimaginably huge influence the media has on this country and its ability to manipulate minds. To me, that's what sets the U.S. apart from many of the other countries in the world. Popular culture is just HUGE here, and believe me it bothers me more and more with every passing day. But I guarantee you, the majority of people all over the world have difficulty branching out and thinking for themselves - every bit as much as they do here.

In addition, when you mention Milton - the reason I had no interest was because to me, it seemed like you had more to say than what was written, I just wanted to read it. Thanks for the discussion. :)

All I can say is that you must have much more enlightend friends than I do because I really only have 1 friend that shares my taste in music. Now grant it I live in a little hick town and I should expect nothing less or more. But even when I lived in Houston TX I had a hard time findind people that would listen to ( now we are talking 80's ) Helloween- Fates Warning- Jag Panzer and bands of the like. I had friends that would want to hear a song from Slayer about screwing dead people but not this other stuff. I had a freind that did listen to King Diamond back in the day which was cool, but the only reason he did was because he had a thing about buying anything that had the name king or jesus in it. He wasn't a Christian or anything he just thought if it had either of those two words in the band title that it was cool. This is the kind of stupidity that surrounds me. (There was one band I think called mc 300 foot jesus & King Missle) Stuff like that.

Dude, I am a US citizen and love this country dearly. I would not live anywhere else. If memory serves me correctly, your music taste is much broader than mine. I suppose in some way I am looked down upon (snob) by some of you because I am close minded about death vocals and the more agressive styles and lyrics. I am not slamming you for liking that stuff or having a broader taste range than myself. I am not lumping anyone on this forum into my original comment. If anything, the people on this forum are the exception to my comment and I feel that this group is too small. I have heard it said that this is an elite festival for the elite fan. It is a shame that it has to be that way. It is ridiculous that a fetival of this caliber is not filling 15000 seat venues.

Its funny how people dont want the truth, it is true that this PP hasnt and will probably not sell out, accept it.

Me, i will not be going, why? cause i really dont care for any of the bands, as simple as that.

Its all good though, if PP8 comes around and some good headliners come in, i will surely go. Nothing personal. Those of you that are going? Rock on and have fun!
The truth about what? This subject has been discussed ad nauseum. I love the lineup and wouldn't bash it even if I didn't. It's not cool to disrespect Glenn and his crew who work so hard to produce this show every year by dredging up this nonsense about a sellout or not...again.

troll? elitist? snob? ... hell, I was called a 'Music Nazi' by a friend the other day because I prefer to listen to metal over other forms of music (i.e. Silverchair, etc). :zombie: WTF?

LOL

top that.

Actually 99.9% of the people out there are like that. I'm married to one of them!

Precisely - that's why I took offense at the broad generalization made about people from the U.S.

So you'd agree that 99.9% out there are like that, but you don't think that 99.9% warrants a broad generalization? You also agree when other people reword his statement, but when he does it he's "a snob?" You call him out for being a Troll because of a statement about American's musical taste, but let AngraRULES' general slap in the face of Americans slide? Perhaps you didn't see it? It was only 2 posts below FatesFan's after all.

I don't know either of you, but I'd say Troll and Snob were a little out of line.

Hasn't anyone noticed that PP7 is being held in Atlanta...deep in Country music territory? I'm sure it would have sold out much faster if it were held in the Northeast. I think Friday's lineup is great. I'm flying down just for Friday and solely to hear Mercenary. The other bands are just icing on the cake.

Being a foreigner who has been in the US for the past 7 years I can assure you that the US is not that different from other countries when it comes to the music business...

I can use my native Brazil as an example... Bands that have headlined prog power before get huge crowds down there.. Stratovaris, Angra, Nightwish, Blind Guardian, Edguy... They all play for a good 8, 9 thousand people in the bigger cities..
BUT, it's does not mean that Brazilians are more educated when it comes to music...Over 50% of the crowd is made up of teenagers.. Teenagers that could be into punk, pop, nu-metal, whatever.. But being a "metalhead" is another available option of a "social tribe"... It's a very pseudo-intellectual thing.. Kids who want to say that are into technical music, with classical influences, good musicianship, etc.. There is nothing that makes them stand out from the rest just for the fact that they like power metal...

one MAJOR thing that I forgot:

80's metal/hair metal is not seen as "uncool" as it is here... So the similarities of power metal/80's metal is not something to be "ashamed of" down there, what makes it MUCH easier to reach the younger crowds...

Expensive travel sucks, but it won't keep me away from it this year....I'm driving down all the way from Michigan! If I'm going to go bankrupt, I might as well do it for a good reason!

Oh for the love of....broad generalization about people in the U.S.! If the generalization had been made about people everywhere (like the one edgeofthorns made), I would've been just fine with it. Geez, Louise.

OK girls...take a chill pill...

For those that have tender sensibilities...just face it...the US market for metal sucks...it doesn't matter how you sugarcoat it...it just does...nah!

Rock on!

Thank you. The USA metal scene/market is pathetic, whether you folks like to hear this or not.

On the surface, that seems to make sense... Atlanta is hardly reknowned as a hotbed for metal. However, ProgPower has been there since 2001, and has sold out every year since 2002, regardless of being in the deep south. So, clearly, location is not the reason it has not sold out yet. It has certainly carved its niche by now, and lots of people are used to the idea of traveling there.

Oh, and if you're flying down only for Friday, you're missing out on a whole shitload of fun...

Which I took back after reading his replies. And the snob part, again, it was just the way it was phrased ok? It's all cool now so let it go (Read post #62). Come on.

It's all good. :kickass:

WARNING: THIS RESPONSE IS FROM A NON PROGPOWER REGULAR. PLEASE PROCEED WITH CAUTION BEFORE RESPONDING. THANK YOU.

Before I answer the question of the original post, I would like to point out that MAJOR kudos should be given to Glenn as promoter for his hard work, dedication, and passion for a genre of music that is not appreciated as it should be. Also, MAJOR kudos to the Progpower regulars that attend every year for supporting such a cool festival and keepING it alive.

Now with all that out of the way, I believe the answer to this question is very obvious...it did not sell out AS FAST because the line up is nowhere as stellar as it has been in the past.

Compared to past line ups, this is the weakest. Yeah, I know its my opinion and all but lets face it, Jorn is not a headliner and Evergrey has toured so much in the last few years, that it does not have the same excitement that another big name band would have.

And I do understand the Nevermore hiccup which caused some of this and that is fine (although I am not really a fan of the band) and finding a last minute replacement could not be an easy thing, I am sure.

However, I do want to end on this note:

I believe that just because this line up was not as stellar bears nothing on future line ups. I think Glenn will continue to bring cool bands to this festival. Its just tough for every single year to have a GREAT line up. Sometimes, you will have years like this one.

Magius, I'm not sure how to respond, because I'm not sure how to take your comments? Clear me up man. By the way, I'm not intending on slamming or insulting anyone if that's the way you took my comment.

Yes, I did catch Angrarules' little comment about Americans, but I've learned to let stupid shit like that slide in the age that we're in.......ooops, I guess I didn't did I? :-) If I got bent out of shape every time I heard a person slam Americans I wouldn't be able to listen to music, watch movies or tv, or even read anything! :-)
