The correct answer is "De Mysteriis Dom Sathanas"

I would like to say some Burzum stuff, and it's easy to be fooled by that, but the Burzum albums I would be thinking of (HLTO, Filosofem) are (technically) not Black Metal.

I have never been able to sit and listen to a burzum album from begining to end. It always takes me 2 or 3 sessions. Not that the music is bad, just the fact that when I start listening to it, I think of how much a fucking douche he is personally.

With that though, I do agree Hvis Lyset Tar Oss is a great album, hah.

For me, between A Blaze... and Transilvanian Hunger, those two albums are the definition of what real Black Metal was, is, and should be.

DMDS is the ultimate elitist opinion, and I suppose I can live with that.

I got into black metal in 94-95. The fist album which blew my mind was "Transylvanian Hunger" shortly followed by "Dom Mysteriis..." and then "In the Nightside Eclipse.." and I will always love all those albums. But at this stage, I judge by the albums I can listen to repeatedly and feel like they still hold the greatest potency.

Actually, I think that he seems to be quite intelligent. He's certainly a revisionist, no doubt, but he's by no means an idiot.

Also, just for the record, not that this was previously mentioned or anything, but: The information in the book Lords of Chaos is not an accurate portrayal of his ideology, and it's a tragedy, for many people have become horribly misinformed because of it. LoC was terribly sensationalist.

However that would start a whole other debate, which I don't really care to get into.

EDIT: I'm kinda ashamed of buying that book in hindsight, but then again Michael Moynihan needs the money so he can eat, and also so that he can GET THE FUCK ON TRACK AND RECORD THE NEXT BLOOD AXIS ALBUM ALREADY, JESUS CHRIST. IT'S ONLY BEEN ELEVEN YEARS.

Very valid point, though. Moynihan and the other wanker really did not portray him well (nor did they present the information as a whole with any real validity). That book could have been so much a better read but the authros failed miserably.

listen to anthems in one sitting. it shits on anything immortal have done, and immortal were definitely a great band.

anthems is much colder an album and the songwriting is stronger. songs like ye entrancemperium and with strength i burn are classic.

Hey Devy...what's up. I gave Nevermore another shot with Dead Heart...I like it...except for that horrible "remake" of the Sounds of Silence...I really wish they left that off the album. The rest of it is really good.

I was wondering if you could recommend either Politics or Dreaming for me next. Knowing the shit I'm into from prior threads, which do you think is the way to go?...maybe the better of two guitar-wise. Thanks!

hey man!

well POE is more like straight up thrashy guitar work, with some slower, moodier stuff, and a great "epic" song called "the learning" at the album's end...

DNB is the band's "experimental" album with really cool/strange song structures, lyrics and guitar work. it's a concept album, arguably the band's "best" record (according to a lot of fans), but IMO there are some filler songs on it.

for me, i like POE more although DNB is more varied because it has thrashy songs, a lot of heavy mid tempo stuff, a great ballad (title track) and one of the best songs the band has done "deconstruction"........

tough call but id say if you like DHIADW then go to POE next!

check your PM's, by the way.
