I'd like to know which advanced guitar practicing or learning books are out there.

I've been self-taught since I took a guitar for the first time, no lesson,s no books, nothing...
Now I've realized that in the last 5 years or so I haven't improve anything so I'm thinkig about getting a good book/video for scales, arpeggios, sweep picking and that kind of stuff.

Hey Jev, I learnt huge amounts when starting out from Michael Angelo Batio's "Speed Kills/Lives" series- especially if you want to get quick fast. Another highly recommended one is Troy Stetina's "speed mechanics". Can't knock Petrucci's "Rock Discipline" either. Doug Marks offers a selection of excellent DVD's as well tailored to what you need.

They are all available at great prices with fast delivery (in my experience) : )

Hi Jevo!

Peter Fischer´s "Rock Guitar Secrets" is very good. I learned a lot with this book.

Troy Stetina Speed Mechanics For Lead Guitar dude! If you want to be like Malmsteen, just get this book and do it for a year or two and you'll be shredding!

+ 1 to the Peter Fischer book

It sometimes gets a bad rap, but that's only because some beginners get it way too early. It clearly states that it's a book for advanced learners. If you're lacking basics, one should begin with his other book, "Rock Guitar Basics".

Guthrie Govan - Creative Guitar 1 & 2

The first one starts with almost 40 pages of text. The book tells the common core of problems with playing and highlights many, many aspects I never thought about that much. Atleast I feel like that the stuff I read, made me a bit better player just by realising some things I was unaware of. And of course there's a tons of stuff to practise and a cd.

Yeah, I want to be like Malmsteen but not so chubby!

:lol: I know, he's so big now! I'd also like to be like Malmsteen but RSI has doomed my shred chances :yuk: which has made me pretty furious for the past year and a half. Its getting better and i'm able to play for longer now though.

Only shred stuff?
You could always work on your vibrato too, that's something that takes ages to truly master, and you might be surprised how much you can keep improving.
Don't get me wrong, I like shred sometimes, but good vibrato is 1000 times more important than being able to pick fast. I can't pick as fast as I used to be able to, but my confidence in my playing improved 10 fold after my vibrato became good.

The Fischer book "Rock Guitar Secrets" is good. (I don't like Fischers other books).

Also a (good) local teacher might be a great help!
I made big improvements from studying with a great teacher.

I'm self-taught. I didn't have a lesson and i don't know anyone in RL that plays guitar.

I would never ever recommend that. Don't waste your money on a book or a stupid DVD that's full of small excercises everyone could have made....

Use the money to visit a teacher instead.

Regards sandra

Yes Airborne and Sandra, teacher is another option, but I'm very busy so I prefer to learn when I can or when i have a little free time.
