Recommend me some black metal

Darkspace - Dark Space III
- One of the best black metal albums I've ever heard, released last year! (quite an achievement!), here's a full song stream: http://www.last.fm/music/Darkspace/_/Dark+3.13?autostart
really dark mix, but this album would not work as well with anything else more "modern".

Dark Funeral - Attera Totus Sanctus
- Such an awesome album from the beginning to the end!

Anorexia Nervosa - Redemption Process
- Awesome more orchestral type of black metal, but much harder than Emperor

Satyricon - Volcano
Satyricon - Now, Diabolical
- Excellent rock-ier black metal

Shining - V: Halmstad
- Depressing black metal, awesome!

Speaking of Satyricon, don't forget about the Nemesis Divina album! It's a black metal classic.

YES :notworthy

Also, Sons of Northern Darkness is like Black Metal Thrash, SO FUCKING GOOD, and I really like everything by Emperor, "Anthems" and "IX Equilibrium" (believe it or not) being my favorites

"Sons..." is a great album. full of ear-to-ear-grin inducing riffs and thrashy goodness.

both of those Emperor albums are solid gold, especially for people who like really technical metal.

also, massive +1 for Shining - "V: Halmstad".

I keep hearing great things about watain..

i guess i should check some of these out also..

"Casus Luciferi" is , in my opinion, one of the finest BM albums of the past decade. a virually flawless album of storming, captivating songs.
the vocals are savage, providing the black icing on a remarkably bitter cake.

I really like Marduk, especially "la grande danse macabre"-don't know what other people think about it,
but that was one of the first black metal albums I bought and I still like it very much.
Started listening to black metal much later than listening to other kinds
of metal and nowadays Marduk, Emperor and Old Man's child
are the only BM bands I listen to.

Marduk - "Panzer Division Marduk" is excellent. i'd almost say its hillariously extreme. cant help but crack a smile while headbanging to "Christ Raping Black Metal" or "Fist-fucking Gods Planet".
Brilliant stuff!

I once have a really random encounter with them in a lonely restaurant at a highway here in Mexico, they aren`t cool guys, except b-war maybe , who was the only one to accept a picture with us, but was realy strange to meet them, it was like 3 a.m.

Feel like share the history haha

Ohyeah! Shining! Awesome band.. new songs sound promising aswell!

I know a guy who used to be all about Shining before. He loved their music and listened to it a lot and played similiar stuff in bands etc. He then got depressed and didn't find any joy in life after some year. He had to go to a therapist and talk about it and once he got through it, he sold EVERYTHING he owned that had to do with black metal. He swore to never go back to that stuff again.

He also told me of a guy who was into the same type of music, namely "suicidal black" I think Shining is referred to as, and that he had cut his stomach open on a concert just to show some wannabe emo kids how to REALLY cut yourself. Apparently his intestines popped out a little bit and he got hauled to the hospital. He didn't die from it, but I don't know more than that. I think his name was Jim... oh anyway.

So anyway, I haven't really said this before but this is actually the reason why I don't like black metal. I see this type of mentality rooted the most in black metal than any other metal genre, which just makes me want to get away from it.

Uhm... sorry for stirring up the thread, I don't mean to turn it into a debate or something, it's pointless to debate over if one genre is better than the other, it's like arguing over the "prettiest" color.

Anyway, so yeah, Shining - They fuck you up! haha :D

Ummm.... No-one is debating whether any genre is better than any other.

and frankly i think its a bit daft to dismiss a genre because of the actions of a few mentally un-balanced people. its like when there is a kid involved in a shooting (or whatever) , the media tripping over themselves to show that marrilon manson turns kids into monsters. that guy who cut himself open was probably a gobshite long before he encountered black metal. same as how "that kid" i refer to would be a jackass regardless of what music he listens to.

:) i totally despise the whole "bro-dude" thing but i still listen to Pantera.

No I didn't say any of us are debating about one genre being better than the other, I just threw it out there in order to avoid any of that stuff after my post because it may have sounded like I was trying to crap-talk black metal.

Yeah I know that it is a little silly to dismiss an entire genre just because of the actions of some individuals but dude... EVERYONE I know that listens to black metal are seriously strange people. They are weird, keep to themselves and never meet any new people, they're so locked up in their own world. And every black metal dude I have met somehow that I DON'T know are also acting the same way. So therefore, my judgements are based on what I have personally seen IRL, and I just feel that it doesn't fit me. I'm sort of paranoid that I'll end up like them if I start listening to BM, haha ;) No but seriously, the music itself is just too unappealing for me, I can't help it.

You might still think I'm silly for thinking this way but anyway :)

Well, I'm the opposite of your description :) Hur e läget? Just came back from a goodbye party for our Slovakian and Romanian exchange students, and had a blast

But then again, I don't enjoy only black metal, I also like anything from drum & bass to jazz to industrial to neoclassical
