Pretty much any type of prog! I do tend to lean towards the stuff that sounds similar to Evergrey though. They are one of my favorites.

1. Jag Panzer (hell yeah Chris Broderick). They've been flying the American power metal flag since 1981, and have a distinctly thrashier sound than the much-maligned contemporary Euro-power scene. One kickass song you should seek out is Lustfull and Free.
2. Another in this more aggressive power-metal vein is Hibria, a Brazilian band. Their album Defying the Rules may not be particularly innovative since it has a lot of throwbacks to 80s heavy metal (and JP's Painkiller hehe), but its execution is flawless. Lots of tapping and bass shredding too

Re: Jag Panzer, the only album I can really stand is "Thane to the Throne," a concept album based on Macbeth which rules - all the rest is just too cheesy for me
