Recommend me some good music dvds?

Try Megadeth - Rude Awakening, Star One - Live on Earth, Blind Guardian - Imaginations Through the Looking Glass, Dream Theater - Metropolis 2000 and Double Feature (5 years in a Live-time/Images and Words live in Tokyo), Led Zeppelin - How the West was Won, Iron Maiden - Visions of the Beast and Rock in Rio, any live Pink Floyd....and that's about it for my DVD's, and I love all of them....

Alcatrazz, Metallic Live with li'l Yngwie Malmsteen. That's sweet stuff.

I like the Astoria vid too. Though DT is one of my faves, I'm disgusted with Portnoy's overwrought self-awareness as producer/director/star of every video.

If anybody likes blues out there, get Joe Bonamassa's So It's Like That is a CD/DVD combo. This kid is a monster. I saw him live when he was 16 frickin' years old with the band Bloodline (made up of sons of famous musicians like Miles Davis' son on drums, Robbie Krieger's kid on rhythm guitar, etc.) and he ripped my head off, kicked it around the club, and sewed it back on. He's grown up to be a monster lick machine though and deserves a listen from those with open ears...

I also enjoy the Concert for George DVD, and David Gilmour in Concert (Pink Floyd-related). Stay away from the Roger Waters DVDs, though.

Opeth's "Lamentations" DVD is great!

Queensryche: "Operation Livecrime" DVD

Personally, I'm waiting for Pain of Salvation's "Be" DVD (next Christmas) and SymphonyX' of course... :D

Personally I think that Star One's Live on Earth is really boring as hell. I would not recommend that one to those who have not already purchased it. Additionally, I think Vai's Astoria DVD is a pretty big let down as well. A good deal of the song selection is just boring, wacky Vai nonsense. If you are going to get on Vai DVD, stick with the ALS DVD. Yeah, it's basically just the album straight through, but that's by far his best work, and the playing on it is extrodinary. Not to mention what a valuable learning tool it is for those who want to play those songs, because they focus on him and his fretboard throughout (he originally made it as somthing of an instructional piece). DVDs that I have really loved of live performances are the new Angra live DVD, which has a ton of their really stellar material, and Dream Theaters Scenes from a Memory live. While the recording quality is kinda poor and you really have to blast the volume because it is naturally so quiet, those guys are so tight and in sync live that it is worth watching just to see how Rudess's hands move.
