This doesn't make sense because every metal song is catchy in some way. Any song you can recognize upon random listen, no matter what band, has to be somewhat catchy to be remembered.

I was referring to power metal being gay (I only like a few bands) and that catchiness doesn't mean gayness.

I don't think Power Metal is very "Meat & Potatoes" dude. When I think "Meat & Potatoes" I think simple power chord riffs, a catchy vocal melody, NO solos or long instrumental breaks, & reasonably shorter lenghed songs.

Early Amorphis & Samael is about as "Meat & Potatoes" as I get Maybe been listening to a bit or Wormed laetly & they probably fit the bill too. I don't know if I would call My Dying Bride "Meta & Potatoes"...

I usually can't get into simple music as much unless it has something there I can dig on. I do like Dark Ambient & repetitive Ambient Black Metal, but I have a certain mood for it like anything else.

Power Metal is not "Meat & Potatoes" as it is based around many times fast & sometimes technical guitar riffs & demanding guitar solos. I have a feeling you're thinking about something else. "Meat & Potatoes" stuff is not really going to have much in the way of guitar solos first off. Listen to Angra or Blind Guardian & try to tell me that is Meat & Potatoes Metal... :? Yngwie Malmsteen is basically the father of modern Power Metal.

As an aside, it's nice to know that I'm not the only D.R.I. fan on this board. I was recently jamming with a punk band and we played 'Suit and Tie Guy'. We nailed it down pretty good too.
