Power Metal is not "Meat & Potatoes" as it is based around many times fast & sometimes technical guitar riffs & demanding guitar solos. I have a feeling you're thinking about something else. "Meat & Potatoes" stuff is not really going to have much in the way of guitar solos first off. Listen to Angra or Blind Guardian & try to tell me that is Meat & Potatoes Metal... :? Yngwie Malmsteen is basically the father of modern Power Metal.
As an aside, it's nice to know that I'm not the only D.R.I. fan on this board. I was recently jamming with a punk band and we played 'Suit and Tie Guy'. We nailed it down pretty good too.
Actually, that kind of ties-in with the thread though I'd recommend something off Thrash Zone. 'Enemy Inside' maybe...
Gojira - Backbone
Testament - Careful What You Wish For
Empalot - Miste Inconvenient
The start of Therion - Cthulhu
Naglfar - I Am Vengeance
Melechesh - Gyroscope
Judas Priest's "Breakin the Law" is one of the most meat n potatoes songs ever. I listened to each riff one time & played along with the song & it usually takes me a few minutes to figure out riffs & sections of songs & get them to flow.
I have the album with that on the cover. I turned around and put it back in. It was just too homo for me. I replace it with a picture of cherry jul or something one day.
I have the album with that on the cover. I turned it over and put it back in the jewel case. It was just too homo for me. I might replace it with a picture of something random one day so that I use the CD more.
