Power Metal is not "Meat & Potatoes" as it is based around many times fast & sometimes technical guitar riffs & demanding guitar solos. I have a feeling you're thinking about something else. "Meat & Potatoes" stuff is not really going to have much in the way of guitar solos first off. Listen to Angra or Blind Guardian & try to tell me that is Meat & Potatoes Metal... :? Yngwie Malmsteen is basically the father of modern Power Metal.

This may seem kind of bizarre, but there are different styles of power metal. Obviously Blind Guardian and Angra don't qualify.

Most power metal bands do plenty of midtempo songs which are all about power chord progressions and catchy vocal lines.

As an aside, it's nice to know that I'm not the only D.R.I. fan on this board. I was recently jamming with a punk band and we played 'Suit and Tie Guy'. We nailed it down pretty good too.

Actually, that kind of ties-in with the thread though I'd recommend something off Thrash Zone. 'Enemy Inside' maybe...

well I came from the punk scene, so yeah, I'm one of the few people on this board who doesn't bash hardcore based music on here.

Judas Priest's "Breakin the Law" is one of the most meat n potatoes songs ever. I listened to each riff one time & played along with the song & it usually takes me a few minutes to figure out riffs & sections of songs & get them to flow.

I have the album with that on the cover. I turned around and put it back in. It was just too homo for me. I replace it with a picture of cherry jul or something one day.
