So, inspired by another thread about Waves RBass I thought I would cover this area.

Have you ever recorded a chainsaw and how did you do it?

I just placed an ADK 51 (cheap mic) and the knee height of the chainsaw-performer and let the guy rev it up and wave it around.

At the end I wish I used a stereo mic to get some more "visual" effect of the waving around part but the exhaust smoke was too intense so we couldn't do one more take.

The chainsaw sounded a little too small and not brutal enough in the mix so I had to pitch it down and add bass with RBass and it was much better.

The cool part is that when the music comes back the chainsaw "plays" the correct note for the first chords of the guitar, and that was not pitched to match it! Haha! It's awesome.

I can upload the song somewere later!

Great idea,..

I've yet to venture into 'sample' making (aside from crowd chants)..

Can't wait to hear it!
(dry and processed if possible!)

hopefully it doesn't sound like Jackyl's chainsaw song - The Lumberjack

fuck ya! whats more metal than recording a chainsaw! not realistic enough for my tastes if you cant hear the saw cutting through bone and guts splashing on the wall though. for this you will need a volunteer

Class. A band I recorded were looking for a sample of a tank, i was gonna record my buddies car revving up then pitch it down and add in sounds of clanging pots and pans. In the end I took the sound of a tank off a youtube vid and played with that as I was really short on time.
