like the 5150 with a tube preamp. does anyone find that the sound becomes darker or more bassy? as to recording a tube amp with a preamp with no tubes.

no.....im saying if you mic up an cab driven by a tube amp..like 5150 with a mic that's fed into a tube preamp, does it seem too warm as in really bassy or dark sounding?
Oh oh, tube MIC preamp - well I used to mic up my 5150 combo with a 57 and an ART Tube MP (the $50 one), and it sounded fine to my ears (certainly not too dark/bassy)
Well I swapped the stock one for a JJ about a year ago, but I actually haven't used it since then (it's technically my Dad's, he bought it just to do some basic home recording of his trumpet playing) - all the recordings I did with it were with the stock tube, and I still think they turned out ok!
