So machine took us out to dinner tonight as well as the band he's recording our fellow Australians house vs hurricane. 14 guys in a 6 seater van with all seats removed. Partying on the way back on the highway listening to dub step machine slams on the breaks into the emergency lane jumps out of the drivers seat and then dives into the back crowd surfing.

I'll start the rest of the recording diary tomorrow. You're jealous.

Also curious as to how much a typical day a Machine Shop usually goes for as well as any blog or anything that follows them building the studio. All the videos I've seen looks as if they track drums in the same room and that most of the walls haven't been completed? I've scanned their twitter with no luck and their website is down for me :(

you can follow machine on instagram, he usually uploads photos of the joint

we tracked drums out of house in hoboken somewhere, machine tracked inhouse in the same room as the drummer, its how he rolls

so we tracked drums out of house at a studio in hoboken called the nut house. Drums were cut through a bunch of different pres, a few distressors, a fatso, i think maybe an 1176 may have been in there, alot was also coming in on the ssl aws. The natural tones sounded badass, nothing really too surprising, 57 on snr, 421s on toms, an assortment on cymbals that were spot micd in pairs.

i believe there were two sets of room mics, ill ask will for the input list.

The drums got 'reamped' today going back through a whole bunch of outboard, api and ssl gear as well as some secrets of wills i wont let out

Guitars were reamped through a 5150 into a mesa cab and a bogner uberschall into a diezel cab as well as a diezel vh4 going through soomething else ;)
we also used a krankenstein through all the breakdowns
57s and 421s on both cabs
they were summed before the daw via something badass

the guitars were 'reamped' in a similar manner to the drums today. theres not alot of plugins used here, mostly outboard.

Out of respect for will and machine id rather not let out any of their processes unless i am allowed permission, nor will i be stealing or attempting to steal their samples as has been done in the past

All i can say is the raw tracks sound huge, we play very fast metal and to have no drum sample replacement is mind boggling. I think you will all be blown away.

we're recording with the one and only will putney

vocals are being cut in the control room
sm7b - la610-distressor and some other stuff

How does the la610 sound? I was thinking about getting one and found one locally really cheap

he hasnt begun the actual mixing process yet so i cant say for sure, but with the way the natural drums sound it wouldnt surprise me. I have no reason to mislead anyone as this is not my production. Im having just as many head scratching moments thinking 'you fucking asshole why are you so good'

Cannot go wrong with the LA610. Wouldn't mind having one for vocals on the way in. Didn't DT use one for all his vocals on SYL or maybe even Deconstruction (or both?)?
