I stumbled across this while I was looking up new plug-ins and it will no doubt change the recording industry. It's something called Direct Note Access and it allows you to pick apart an audio wave into separate notes. This is NOT refering to midi signals.

Taken from the site "Direct Note Access is a technology that makes the impossible possible: for the first time in audio recording history you can identify and edit individual notes within polyphonic audio material. The unique access that Melodyne affords to pitch, timing, note lengths and other parameters of melodic notes will now also be afforded to individual notes within chords."
This won't be available until this fall but the plug-in itself is only a few hundred dollars. I'm still in complete awe that this is even possible and had to share it with you guys!
