Hi
I whould want to resume an old discussion: how to record/mix a whole project.
If I have to do a recording with different tracks, is it better to record all the tracks in 1 projects or 1 project for each track?
I know everybody have his personal preferences but it's cool to know how you usually record.
I saw the In sorte Diaboli bonus dvd and Fredman seems to have one project for each track. Does protools have an usefull tool for transport settings from a track to another?
I think the best solution is to have all in one project....but it's very heavy for the system resources, it needs lot of memory, expecially if you have different songs with 40-50 tracks...

i think it also depends on the music - for an album with a minimum of diversity i think multiple projects are a necessity ... having a ballad and a grindcore song on the same tracks isn't a very good idea ;)

I always record each song in a separate session. PT allows you to save plugin settings and import them for each session.

Or, if you know the project well enough or the way you mix you can create a template session with all the routing done and tracks created with the inserts you normally use.

I normally use a tracking template for each band I work with that has the (approximate) number of tracks created, named, and routed before hand so that it's ready to go when we setup.

Well ...

if you are smart you will have done pre-production and/or demos and will know how many tracks you will need for the "biggest" arrangements. Then just make a template for that and copy the settings from song to song.

The tracks have to be VERY similar in style though to make this work.

Actually I use sonar 6 and I can save templates, but if I use templates I have to mix at least one song before the exporting of my templates (because this template should be the "base" for the other recorded songs).
At this point, if I wanna change a big amount of things in my mix...I have to change these things in every song, because for what I know, open a template is different to import vst settings..

SHAZAM!

set up a "default" session that you load up everytime you start something...then "save as" to name it whatever it needs to be named.

if the mixing across all the tracks will be more or less the same, create plugin presets and the like to load into other songs for the same project
