Yep, it's about time. I'm going to invest in my own house kit, both to familiarize myself with the many intricacies of fine drumming and their mechanical counterparts. I want to start at the beginning with DDrum's 5-piece Reflex kit, as it's in the price range for a beginning drummer, but I may be getting ahead of myself.
I think logic has presented itself well here, as I plan on buying in this order.
First batch: Sticks, Key, Drum Dial, and Throne = 100-200 bucks.
Second batch: Evans EC2 heads that correspond with the Reflex dimensions, plenty of moongels, and an EMAD 2. (Need suggestions for resonant heads, by the way) = another 100-200 bucks.
Third batch: Hardware, 3-4 stands and accent attachments, maybe a couple accent cymbals if the budget allows. around $200, probably more. (Suggest sturdy brands, if you can).
Fourth batch: DW 3000 series pedal. (Found some good deals here).
Fifth batch: Here's the fun part, I love Meinl, most Zildjians and a few Sabians are my favorite. I do want two crash cymbals, one ride and a nice china or two, one is going to be stacked as a hat (recommendations? samples if you have 'em!) and very importantly, good hats/ good hat combinations. This should be close to $500.
And finally the piece de resistance, the DDrum Reflex shell pack.
The way I have this planned out, it's like waiting on the puzzle pieces to get here, as each individual batch is pretty much useless until the next shipment. Which gives me even less margin to fuck up my shit before I have all the pieces. I feel like a pirate hunting for treasure that must be obtained in pieces and the adventure familiarizes me with them enough to where I can feel my way through the "Christmas effect" of putting it all together. I want to have this done in six months in installments that reflect each batch. So tell me, what am I missing? What can you recommend?
(TL;DR) ^Dog here is a guitarist who wants some drums, and he knows what he wants. Needs experienced opinions on getting there.
