I'm currently remixing old Feared songs for the sake of releasing a greatest hits cd :D
Using old DI's is working pretty good and it's really nice to hear that I can get a totally different sound out of it all just through reamping and some changes with the drum software.

Here is the old one from 2007:

And here is the new one, reamped with Savage and using some different samples

Also I would like to get some help with mixing metal vocals. I've not really looked into it that much since I always think you can get a long way just making the instruments sound good in the mix. Share your best reverb tips :D

i think this song is very good but try to mix this vox in a diffrent way:)
I don't know...
Vocalist is very similar to Rob Flynn...
but first...try with less reverb :)

I've found with dull SM57 vocal tracks you can get a lot of mileage out of the Waves RVox. Very easy to use and if you take off a fair amount of dBs you will find the vocal immediately gets more in your face. Beyond that I would recommend fast, fet-style compression like an 1176 plug-in. I'm fortunate to own a real 1176 Rev A which is just amazing on vox.

Saturation is a huge one on vox too. I've used everything from bootsy's Tessla plug-ins to izotope trash on the 'tape' settings to the SPL TwinTube and SoundToys Decapitator. It really all depends on what the vocal needs. But in metal the keys are usually good doses of saturation (bordering on distortion) and compression. All this combines to annihilate transients and get it right up in your face.

Beyond that it's just tailoring the vocal to the track using minor EQ.
