Reverie/Harlequin Forest...

My new favorite Opeth song from the very moment I heard it for the first time.

Dunno if I'll get bored of it after a couple hundred listens.. hasn't happened to any other Opeth songs, so I guess it'll stay my favorite.

Yeh that end riff is a bit ugly, but by that time the fuzzyness is gone and I can enjoy the anger.

I love how on this song, and much of GR, Mikael incorporates clean singing over heavier instrumentation instead of the usual growling over heavy and clean over soft.

The part that ends around 8:10 is among the greatest climaxes in any song ever.

I love the drumming during the first half of Harlequin Forest. I like music where the drumming stands out just as prominently as the guitars (which is why I like Mastodon a lot as well) and this is definitely the type of song that has that effect. It's probably my favourite track on GR. It's a toss up between this and Baying of the Hounds.

Yeah, the drums are really cool in the beginning.

Agreed. That's its only weakness. I usually stop at 8:10

Yeah, apart from GOP this was the song that stood out initially from the album. The more I listen to it the more I like it, but do agree that it goes on a tad too long. I think Per is great in it too his organs in the 2.40 region add a lot to the sound. I also love the bit with harmonics, and I think vocally it is a very strong performance.

The End riff is perfectly fine.. a cool way to end it.
The only other songs i can think that end with an odd rhythm riff are:
Deliverance
Beneath The Mire

.. that not that many times at all!

Ace song from an ace album.

they also use a similar riff in the middle of beneatht the mire,, u know,, short guitar blasts synchronized with same lenght drum beats ,,, also the begining of the grand conjuration and deliverance .... i just got bored from hearing it so many times

just my opiniion,, dont tear me apart for it :)
