Ripper joins Yngwie Malmsteen

Personally, I'm stoked. I've always liked Yngwie's material, but it's mostly because of the vocalists he utilizes.

On another note, has anybody ever heard the first collaboration between Yngwie and Ripper from years back? It was a cover of "Mr. Crowley," recorded for the "Bats Head Soup" tribute to Ozzy. I thought it was one of the better tracks on the disc.

Stay metal. Never rust.

I've loved evy vocalist YM has ever used. I'd love Mike Vescera to return to the mic for him, and definitely Mark Boals, as well.

I prefer their version of Mr. Crowley over Ozzy's, to be honest.

Now, if we're talking about Barlow's abilities as a frontman and a vocalist, than he belongs on that same level as Halford. This latter grouping, is of course purely subjective.

l agree it's a matter of personal taste. But myself and millions of Priest & metal fans would disagree with you wholeheartedly in a comparison case. Halford wins in a landslide...Barlow dwindles into obscurity with his lack of ability.

And on a side note...Ripper gets an honorable mention for having the ability to fill the legendary boots of Rob Halford.

You know...l had forgotten about that track. That was a helluva take on that song by those 2.

I saw the last tour and heard Doogie perfectly just wish I couldn;t on any of the old stuff. he absolutely BUTCHERED Dreaming(Tell Me)...
 I honestly couldn't tell you if Doogie is a good live singer or not, cause I could not hear him at all. And when I say that the show I was at was painfully loud...that is no exaggeration. I walked out midway through just to save what little hearing I had left...fuckin' brutal. I really don't like Doogie's work with Yngwie anyway. I much prefer him in Cornerstone.

My initial reaction to this was a resounding "Whaaaa...?"

I'm not sure what to think or expect of this union, but either way I'm sure that the end result will be surprising...provided, of course, that Yngwie doesn't eat Mr. Owens before the album is finished; that wouldn't surprise me at all.

I agree that it would be great to see Ripper's solo ventures in the spotlight, rather than his perpetual joining with other bands...but I think that if it were that big of a deal to him, he would do something about it.
(I interviewed Ripper a couple years back for nearly an hour, and he spent all of about 5 minutes talking about Beyond Fear)

So far it seems that this migratory, sort of "vocal nomad" method has worked for him.
It's lined his pockets, kept him busy, and put his name out there to fans of various projects.

However, as far as "Ying Wee" is concerned, I appreciate Yngwie for his contribution to heavy metal (I own and have enjoyed Alcatraz, Steeler, and a shitload of old demos and four-tracks as well as his recent stuff) but the guy is a pompous Swedish meatball, and he just really bothers me as a person.

So I guess all there is left to say on the subject is...

UNLEASH THE FAWKING BURGERS! :kickass:

I hope a live album is released with Ripper. Imagine Owens singing I'll See The Light, Liar, Seventh Sign, Motherless Child etc. Heh with the advent of Youtube, I'm sure it will out minutes after the last note is completed.

If you look up the English to Swedish dictionary, and you found the phrase "arrogant bastard", the Swedish translation is "Yngwie Malmsteen". His old stuff was great, though.
