How come no one likes this album. They say it's the worst Saxon album but it's quite clearly one of the best.

Heard it for the first time about a week ago, rather liked it myself.

Would like to know about "Forever Free" being that I have yet to hear it. Is it good?
lost track of them around this time thats why I've never heard it.

Rock the Nations is an ok album, but definitely not the best. I must admit that Forever Free is my least favourite Saxon album.

Funny that Saxon quite often in the past followed up a good album with an indifferent one. Yet the last 3 albums have all been stormers! Are the boys well and truly back or what!

Come on Saxon, get yours arse's back down to London. I'm going cold turkey here!

Pax.

Rock the nations is definitely an underrated album. The title track and Battle cry really kick ass, and the softer tunes Waiting for the night and Northern lady are good as well. As far as I´m concerned Crusader is the worst Saxon album. The title track is fantastic, but the rest of the songs more or less suck.

Dude, obviously there's a ton of different opinions going here, but I also like Rock The Nations quite a bit. Destiny is quite obviously the worst Saxon disc because of those obnoxious keyboards (cheesy sounding the way they're used), but even it has its moments. Forever Free is a jam, highly recommended! And look, it's just been reissued just for you with two live bonus tracks! The only clunker on the disc is I don't really care for their version of "I just wanna make love to you", but it's really hot otherwise. The title track & "Iron Wheels" are two of their best tunes ever!

Basically what it all comes down to is that everyone has their own opinion! No one is wrong or right, it is just all opinion.

There is not one single Saxon album that doesn't have it's "moments", ie crusader on crusader; forever free and iron wheels on forever free; the first 4 or 5 songs on rock the nations; some good songs on destiny etc etc. And other Saxon albums are classics.

There has never been a band EVER that has come up with great albums time after time.

Amen Pax.... I have a tendency to agree not every one can be ON all of the time.

I bought the new reissue of Crusader. I've never listened to the album before and is a bit dissapointed except for crusader and a couple of other songs the song quality isn't very high.
The bonus track Krakatoa is imho better than 50% of the original songs just a straight ahead Saxon rocker.

'Solid Ball of Rock' is also a highly underrated record. the title track and 'Requiem' being some of me favourite Saxon songs.

I've not heard 'Rock the Nations' yet but I've never heard a bad Saxon record yet!

Yeah, Solid Ball is a great album as well. Kinda marks the start of Saxon being the more focused band they are today.

Rock the Nations isn't the strongest of Saxon albums. In saturday afternoon grip and grappel terms I'd have to liken it to Big Pat Roach. Some big great moments (such as Rock the Nations, Ain't No Angel etc) but ultimately fails to keep up with the Fit Finley like, Solid Ball of Rock.

It's strange because I had always considered Rock the nations as the worst Saxon album until I actually listened back to it after a lot of time and I can tell you that is not so bad as it is commonly perceived. I remember than when it was first released everyone criticized Saxon, the press almost hated it (not the italian one by the way) but I think that there are some gems in it like Battle cry or We came here to rock and Running hot or the same Empty promises. I would say that like a lot of middle-eighties albums is better now than 15 years ago

Matteo

p.s. crusader is terrible even today!

Well, Rock the Nations was the album that made me a fan, so I obviously love it. It's VERY underrated, IMO.

Well I finally heard the entire Cd about a week ago and I like it.

I didn't really care for Destiny the first time I heard it. Just got the Crusader re-issue. Crusader isn't that great of an album. The title track and Do It All For You are the only real highlights in my opinion. I like the bonus track too.
