I heard that they were going to do Rockstar 2 a bit back, and they hadn't announced the band. But all they would say is "Its a big band," and that we would have heard of them!

Well, decided to see if they had announced it yet, and its old news, so perhaps all of you know.

But its a group called Supernova. Interesting. Neverheard of them. But then I see who is in it... and yeah. Its a supergroup. And... its metal. Well at least the arists have done metal/pop-metal. Butch Walker writing the album though. Hrm. We'll see. But I'll be watching this. Heck the INXS one was good. Some great voices out there. And I know the guy that sings for Halcyon here in Atlanta (and performed at some Progpower event at some time?) tried out for it, after winning a pre-audition with 99x (Axel and Wally were some of the main judges, and the guy belted out Rainbow in the Dark... so yeah he won easily).

I'd like to say that The Marvelous 3's ReadySexGo! is one of my favorite albums of all time. So Walker writing the songs? Not necessarily a bad thing.

But when I saw "Rock Star 2" in the subject line, I feared that a sequel to that craptacular movie had been greenlit. Great soundtrack, but may the rest of that metal-bashing experience be swept from my memory.

Says in the article: Tommy Lee (Motley Crüe), Jason Newsted (Metallica) and Gilby Clarke (Guns N' Roses)

I'm not sure how much I like Gilby. I've listened to his solo stuff. Just not sure what kinds of lead guitar he can pull off. Good rythm guitarist though.

it was not metal bashing. it was poser bashing. i thought it was great. as for TV gameshows... :Puke:

I disagree. The moral I got from Rock Star (movie, not TV show ;) )was that metal was just some adolescent phase that musicians go through before discovering adult "real music," i.e. acoustic coffee shop music. Blea!

I also found it cliched at best. I personally think a movie about a metal band "getting by" in the 1990's (when the Tim Owens story happened) would have been a lot more unique and compelling than yet another go-round of hotel trashing, rock and roll excess, etc.

I didn't realize the guitar player was Gilby. When I originally heard about the show it wasn't him, but some guy from one of the 90s bands. I can't remember, but I'm glad Gliby will be involved then.

I'm pretty behind the times on TV programming, so I have to admit that when I first saw this thread, I thought that they were making another Mark Wahlberg movie.

However, I might have to check this show out, as I just heard that Jill Gioia (who performs with the TSO West touring group) is one of the contestants.

Anyone who has seen TSO West knows that Jill is a powerhouse of a vocalist...and anyone who's ever gone through the M&G line following a TSO West performance knows that she is one of the nicest people you could possibly meet. Best of luck to Jill!

I'm not sure the movie was bashing anything... actually, if you listen closely the acoustic coffee shop music at the end is basically the same type of music as the rest of the movie, just played with an acoustic guitar, while wearing a flannel shirt, heh. Overall, the movie wasn't very memorable to me at all. At this point, I only remember 3 things... 1) It was kind of funny when Mark Wahlberg's character pulled the plug on one of the guitarists from his cover band. 2) Wahlberg's character was so naive it was almost over-the-top. 3) The character that roughly corresponded to Glenn Tipton, was a huge asshole.

I think the main reason the movie sucked though, was that it simply wasn't a good story for a movie. For a book, quite possibly. But not for a movie. I can see why somebody might have thought it would be, but this is the sort of thing that should have been killed in pre-production, when it becomes apparent that it's just not working.

I'm going to watch this show because I have been a fan of one of the contestants for years - Patrice Pike. She used to play for a band called Little Sister (who subsequently had to change their name to Sister 7 when they discovered another band by that name) for years around Texas and the southwest. She's really talented, but I'm not sure how she will fit into a band with the likes of Tommy, Jason and Gilby... she's not a Metal or even Hard Rock singer in the least, but she does have killer pipes.

Oh, and just in case there are a few who haven't seen the roster of the 15 finalists, here's a link: http://rockstar.msn.com/news/rockers

Anybody know the Georgia ones? If they are in a local band or whatnot?

Well they picked a mix of pretty faces, alternative faces, and pretty faces. Now to see if they can sing...

Butch Walker writing the album is not necessarily a bad thing.Does anybody remember Southgang? They fell into the whole "sign every glam band" category, but they were not a particularly awful band. Tainted Angel was a decent disc and I still listen to it from time to time

Its a 'sequel' to the first Rockstar tv show, which is where they picked the new singer for INXS. Which... I've heard the show didn't do well but INXS is doing incredibly well with their new singer.

I had read that Jamie Rowe tried out, but didn't make the final cut! That surprises me, because that dude can really sing! He use to be in a band called Guardian back in the late 80s and early 90s. Now he currently fronts a band called, Adrian Gail.

I'm looking forward to this show, because I love to hear vocals, period! I didn't realize that someone from the TSO Camp tried out, so the best of luck to her!

I wish that the show had picked a different drummer besides Tommy Lee though. The guy is like a 14 year old trapped in a 40 year old's body! I don't hate him, but he just gets on my nerves!
