Romeo and 7-strings guitars

Well, he did say the album would be darker. And we all know that means really low powerchord riffs and really heavy songs throughout. So the seven-string thing is inevitable. And I still think that B, C, and Db on the low end of the guitar would force the band to completely revamp their style.

...Okay, </sarcasm> Sorry. :D

AND LOTS OF TRI-TONES FROM THE DEPTHS OF HELL!!!!!!! :devil: :devil: :devil: :devil: :devil:

Man It's just like having 6 gears in a car.. it's just more you can do.. more insane runs just cause KoRn abused theres cause there style doesn't mean there can can be some amazing 7 string work.. I mean theres guitarists out there doing 7 string sweeping!!! and I'm pretty sure Jeff Loomis will be throwing a FEW in on the next album hehe it's juat an extension and more chords :D (darker) :hotjump:

I can think of one downside. I think many bands who use 7 strings just kinda rely on the sheer low-ness of the B string to write "heavy" riffs, whereas if you were to play the same riff on the E string it'd be dull and uninteresting. As much as I love Nevermore, I think even they have a few riffs that are guilty of this.

I agree to a certain extent, but on that note you could say the same about SX or other bands tuning down a step (or more) for "sheer heaviniess". In the situation of someone like Romeo who has been playing 6 strings all their life, i dont think the addition of a low B would become a crutch, but more of a nice little add-on for use when needed.

Either way i still dont think a seven string would have any negative effects, but either way its not a major concern of mine either. He's a great guitarist either way regardless of a low B string or lack thereof

However, they tuned the guitars like a baritone. Am I wrong?

Not that I'm aware of. Three of the songs are dropped two full steps, one is dropped one full step (Symphony X style), one is dropped a half step, and one is on a 7-string. One of the songs has no guitar in it.

How about we just ask Jax to ask Mike? How about it, Jax? Any word from Romeo on some 7-string action?

So, which one is which? I'd assume the three heavily downtuned ones (Drop C or lower) are "As I Am", "This Dying Soul" and "Honor Thy Father", but no clue about the rest.

A 7-strings guitar just allows you to have some lower tones, it doesn't mean "to sound like Korn". It could be used in 2-3 songs without changing SymphonyX unique style. As Jak3y told, what about a 7-strings sweep? :)

As I Am, HTF, & ITNOG = 2 steps down
Endless Sacrifice = 1 step down
Stream of Consciousness = 1/2 step down
This Dying Soul = 7-string
Vacant = no guitars

This Dying Soul was played on a 7-string so it could be included directly after The Glass Prison live.
