Just got ldone listening to the sample of the new CD and WoW mike is getting an AWSOME tone on this one.

Im wondering if hes still using the Line 6 (I REALLY DOUBT IT) or of he went back to Mesa, Its got that reall punch triaxis / recto vibe and im loving it.

yeah man i think it could be something to do with the guy who worked on this album with them who works with opeth etc... its a very similar sounding distortion in places

Mesa is so incredibly overrated and overworshipped.

OH MY GOD I KNOW. Mesas are also overhyped and overPRICED. I'd take Peavey over Mesa anyday.

But yeah, Romeo's tone on the new album is amazing. I do know he is not back to Mesa, but he has a Vetta II, Madison, Marshall, and Engl Fireball in his rack, so it could come from any one of those.

OMGZ YEEEAAHHHAAA MESA FTL!!!!111!!!

lots of merit to those kind of comments:rolleyes:

Anyway, agree on all counts that the tone on the new album kicks ass. It'll be interesting to find out what exactly he's using.

I've only really heard Serpent's Kiss, so I don't have the whole package to judge on. I can say for sure that the rhythm tone is fantastic and way better than the Odyssey (which wasn't all that bad, just not as good as the previous albums). The one thing I don't like is a few of the lead runs that sound VERY processed and digital. (namely the one lick that ascends quickly to the high dive bomb). But then his lead tone for the soloing is pretty damn good. I don't think they will ever trump V in tone because I don't think people generally go for that tone. I love the amount of mids in his tone and how it allows the guitar to be subtle in context yet pronounced on its own, and really work with the other instruments to compliment the overarching sonority. I'd say I like the tone about on par with Divine Wings, with Twilight edging it out and V in a league of its own.

I asked the gear question on the first page of the "thread" and I'm sure a lot of other ppl did too. I believe I read somewhere he said for his rythyme tone he used the Engl. Also bear in mind the mics, speakers, cabs, mic position are also part of a players tone.

and a bit off topic, but it kinds of irks me when people say a tone sounds digital. What? you can hear the 0's and 1's coming out?! end of rant...

Most people automatically bitch about digital because it makes them seem more knowledgeable and wise. Mind you, there are plenty of people with a direct, personal preferrence for analogue, but a bunch of bassists/guitarists who have bitched to me their pearls of analogueness, have admitted when asked to never actually having played much digital equipment (like amps and MFX).

Personally, having not played much of either, I'm not making a judgement towards either.
