Romeo's New tone

Friend of mine just bought a Carvin V series, he loves it. I have yet to try it out, but I'm looking forward to running an Ibanez & a Caparison through it. I miss my tube amps like you wouldn't believe!

I got to try a Legacy combo, and I was NOT impressed at all.
I used to use a Marshall (JCM800 from 1986-7), and then got hooked on Mesa Boogie (MK IV), and in my opinion, the Legacy couldn't touch either one, FWIW.... Everyone's ears are different, just try before you buy...

What are you playing now?

Can't beat tubes...don't care what anyone says.

The thing to me about modelling amps is the lack of dynamic response...I feel I lose the subtlties...like taking your guitar volume down, picking attack, etc.

Seriously? I love the sound I get when I turn my volume knob down on my Line 6. I can really hear how hard I hit the string with the pick, and I end up getting some sweet Vai-esque sounds.

^It wasnt an intentional reference but it ended up being so.

What Line 6 do you have?

I have a spider II as well...but my friend gave me his DSL 2000 so I've been using that haha. I found it very very hard to tweak my spider to make it good. I just gave up.

I tried the Spiders...I heard raves...I think the construction is super cheap and the tone is like an old AM handheld radio...very toy like. The preset were horrid. Just my opinion of course....no offense.

lol yeah hes the man hahaha

Spiders looked like toys and sound like toys

haha if you're familiar with Mattias Eklundh, he played through a tape recorder or something like that because he thought it sounded cool lolol

Line 6 Flextone II which CAN produce some nice tones, and the versatility can't be beat (IMO), but exactly as you mentioned, there's enough missing that it's totally noticeable...

I didn't sell off everything because I wanted to, I had to as I was out of work for quite a while. Some of the stuff I got rid of, I'll NEVER see again...... :(

And he's had a Laney endorsement since 1996, I believe.
Some of those recordings are available, I think, just google their internet only cd Junk Tooth.....

I remember hating the older Laney amps, but I haven't even seen one of the newer ones in person, yet...

I agree Freak Kitchen is better than the solo stuff... I like Matthias more for his technical ability and creativity as a guitar player rather than his actual songs...

That's pretty much how it is for me too. The solo stuff just gets to be too much for me most of the time...I almost always have a pretty solid idea of what I'm going to hear and how I'm going to feel about it before the track even starts. Some of his stuff has too much of a novelty feel to me (in much the same way a lot of buckethead and even a little bit of Vai has IMO). With the Freak Kitchen stuff, I can enjoy the songs and and his solos usually don't get to be "too much".

I love his solo stuff. That dude stays with my friend's music teacher every year when he does clinics and stuff here in MA. I'm gonna meet that dude when he comes up next!! Its going to be awesome!!
