Apart from "Show Don't Tell" (which I like), I have yet to hear a single note of Presto, Roll The Bones, Counterparts or Test for Echo. Which would you recommend first?

My personal favourite is "Counterparts" - full of great tracks like Animate, Double Agent and Nobody's Hero. I'd leave "Presto" for last. "Test For Echo" is the second best of the three, followed by "Roll the Bones".

Oh, and Wrathy, I don't know how many Rush albums you have, so I'll give you this brief guide on what to get:
Everything is worth getting, although the following can, in my opinion of course, wait until you're finishing up on your collection:
* Rush (has great tracks like In the Mood, Working Man and Finding My Way)
* Caress of Steel (has great tracks like Bastille Day and the two cool epic tracks, The Necromancer and The Fountain of Lamneth, but dud tracks like I Think I'm Going Bald... the album is a bit of a letdown though considering it's in between Fly By Night and 2112)
* Signals (has great tracks like Subdivisions, Analog Kid and New World Man... Losing It is good too, a bit heavy on the synth though)
* Presto (The Pass rules, and Superconductor is BRILLIANT!)
* Vapor Trails (the new one, having trouble getting into it so far)
Apart from those their discography is awesome, but the above are all well worth getting.

You know which Rush album I'm not all that fussed on, but didn't mention before? Hemispheres. I don't see why it's considered such a classic album for them. Oh well.
That reminds me of the piano version of Dream Theater's "Ytse Jam". Brilliant, although I'm sure a lot of it's done through the wonders of modern studio technology.

Get "Different Stages" - it's from the Test For Echo tour, and has material from all over their career (I think it skips "Presto" though, if I remember correctly). It also has them performing ALL of 2112 (the song) for the first time... well, the tour was the first time they'd performed it all, but I doubt the recording was the first time they'd performed it... you know what I mean!
I prefer Exit Stage Left to All the World's A Stage, personally. It was the first Rush album I bought, btw! Ooh, and A Show of Hands rules too. I have the video, it's great I also have the Chronicles vid (it's the only Rush CD I don't actually have!) and the Exit Stage Left vid. All are cool in their own right
Btw, I highly recommend Hold Your Fire. I don't think Neil Peart has ever written better lyrics. It's probably my favourite Rush album.

OK, after careful consideration, I've decided that my next Rush purchase will be... Different Stages. Is the 3 CD version still available, or was that just a limited edition thing?
While looking for that, I also found "The Ultimate Collection" by The Who, a 2-disc set that's way better than either of the compilations I have. Yay!

I believe that "Different Stages" is still a 3 CD-er. It's two discs from their last tour, and one from their "A Farewell to Kings" tour (if memory serves). Great stuff!!
