Sabaton opening for Overkill in NYC

What I'm surprised is that it's not Accept headlining, with Overkill and Sabaton opening...Is Overkill a better draw than Accept in the States? Cause I'm sure in my place Accept would draw more people.

For some reason, Overkill is a bigger draw. Not that they're not great and all, but, I'd be going for Accept and Sabaton, myself.

In fact, Overkill has a special place in my heart. They were the first big band I ever opened for.

I think Overkill and Accept view each other as equal contemporaries. Overkill will probably close as they are probably hosting the show, setting it up, picking the other bands, but they surely don't view Accept as "our opening band", they probably sent the invitation saying "Hey! Come play a show with us, it'll be awesome!" Both bands will probably get roughly equal stage treatment (light show, etc.). I was surprised to see Kreator headlining over Exodus, but for the actual show there was basically no difference. Both bands played 90 minutes, both had the room packed out, etc. Kreator just had brighter strobe lights.

Yeah. The name "Accept" doesn't mean much in the States. They were playing some real dumps when they were touring the U.S. earlier this year. Overkill, on the other hand, has a pretty strong following, especially in the New York area. Anywhere else and I'd worry about Sabaton outdrawing the other two and the venue being a third full by the time Overkill goes on, but that won't happen in NYC.

Are you for real? Overkill tends to headline at least once a year. They are pretty popular. If this is a full tour certainly Sabaton will get a lot of new fans, but they won't outdraw the other bands.

Sabaton has come to the USA for 1 show each trip on two occasions that I know of. They have agreed to the 70,000 tons of Metal fest in Miami, though, so if they are ALSO doing NYC... there are a lot of venues in between.

What do you base this on?

aside for the ProgPower forum.....there is not much buzz about them. Go to any show and bring them up....most people never heard of them. Do you see their stuff in stores? Like any band....if they do tour and put on a killer show each night....they will gain more fans in the US, but dont forget...power metal doesnt get much love in the states.

I know Overkill is popular, but I perceive a real cult thing going on with Sabaton...I might be wrong, though. The novelty of seeing a rising band that's only done a handful of shows in the U.S. can be pretty powerful.

if this is actually a tour....this is the perfect one for Sabaton. Thrash fans may like them for thier high power music. If they play their cards right and out on a sold show each night....they could end up being the highlight of the tour. Kind of like Eluviete on the first pagan fest tour.

I know I would travel to NY for Sabaton alone. I love them so hard.

I can't stop laughing that people here are even remotely suggesting that Sabaton should or could headline over Overkill and / or Accept.

Nothing against Sabaton or anything, but seriously?

They just got signed to Nuc Blast, and are just starting to make waves (nice 70000 Tons of Metal pun, eh??? yes? no? Maybe???) in the US.

Overkill is right behind Testament in the running for the US Thrash Band to be added to the Big 4, if it were increased to the Big 5.

Overkill is one of the most consistent metal acts of ALL time.

Sabaton would draw about the same amount of people that Primal Fear and Redemption did when they played at UB's. Most people outside this forum who I have talked to are not familiar with them at all.

As much as I like Primal Fear, I hear they draw barely 100 people on any given night in the States.
