Saddam Hussein is fucking dead.

You're putting words in my mouth, dude. You are making arguments with me based off of things that I didn't even say.

...So should we go topple them too?

I said absolutely nothing about the war being right.

Newly freed? That's the epitome of American arrogance.

The "newly freed Iraqis" phrase I used was not a reflection of the freedom that I have in the United States. Of course the Iraqis aren't happy with the mess that their country is in at the moment, but other than the minority Sunnis whom Saddam cared for, I don't think that many Iraqis at all would opt to take Saddam back and live like that again, instead of just sticking it out and establishing stability without Saddam. And I agree with everything you said about the US being an experiment, a baby country, whatever you want to call it. We are too young to boss around other civilizations, and probably even an old country still shouldn't be bossing around another civilization.

It'd be one thing if the Iraqis had done this all on their own (a la the French Revolution), but they didn't. We did. Shameful.

Of course the US instigated the war, but even if we packed up and left Iraq today, I wouldn't expect the sectarian violence to stop. Yes, we went in there and started the whole mess, but most of the violence is Iraqis fighting Iraqis who have differing opinions about how the new government should be built.

It's also extremely arrogant to think that this is what Iraq needs to become like us...

Again, I didn't say that.

Is that supposed to mean that you like government interference with private property and what's left of the free market, the high taxes, more handouts with less accountability... what?

Jeff

No, I just dislike Liberatarians

How do you know that? This is exactly what I'm talking about when I say that Americans are extremely arrogant. There have been many, many more "iron fist" regimes in power than elected officials throughout the history of humankind.

Actually, every Iraqi I talked to when I was thier said exactally what Aaron said. They were scarded shitless of him because if something went down that he didn't like, he would kill you. I'm sure he would never actually goto the small cities himself and actually start shooting people he didn't like, but he was able to brainwash these people into thinking that he would.Hell, if the mayor of my city started having people executed because he just felt like it, I'd be pretty fucking obediant after seeing that.

I don't think that Americans even understand what freedom is.

How many bitchin, modern inventions do you think, were born in these past couple hundred years. ALOT! And our country is one of them!
Throughout the past 230 years countless men and women have, bravely, given their lives for this country, and the freedom it represents. It's our civilization that was born of freedom from these tyranical systems. This world has just been run by fuckheads for the previous 4770 years.
Politics are fucking gay! We're not supposed to be talking about this shit! Let's talk aboot drum samples, fuck this thread! And for the love of God, fuck Saddam fucking Hussein!

You're putting words in my mouth, dude. You are making arguments with me based off of things that I didn't even say.

I didn't put anything in your mouth except deez nuts.

Just kiddin'.

I was just using your post as a reference for my rant. Also, I'm not "making arguements"... I'm just talking like I would with my homies sitting in the living room listening to tunes and passing the g-nob.

Gnash - politics rule! It's extremely metal to discuss politics!!!

Because writhing on the ground in agony because nobody on the squad was a good enough shot to shatter your skull, damage your spine, or crush major internal organs just happens to be so much more humane than taking moments to have your neck snapped with the knowledge that you probably won't feel your death coming because the part of you that would sense pain is the same part that's being taken out first.

Jeff

Whatever happened to hanging where they attached just the right amount of weight to your feet so your kneck snapped instantly?

I don't see how this would make any sense.

Yeah, I don't either. But somehow it does. At the risk of sounding like a bigot, I think it's safe to say that the Iraqi people (as a whole, not as individuals) are slightly behind a lot of the rest of the world in a few social aspects. Sad to say, from my ARMCHAIR point of view, I don't think they are ready for "freedom."

It's strange.... Bush says the word "democracy" only when he speak about Iraq (does he speak about anything else?)
Have you listen Bush speak about Nigeria, Sudan and many many other States with a dictator?

Only a word: Oil.

He made this war for oil and because Iraq was the war of Bush sr.

Oh geeze not the oil discussion....

How much oil have we recieved from Iraq since the invasion????

Not a drop......
Case closed.

Not a drop......
Case closed.

I dont' think it's about us actually getting more oil from Iraq.

If we (USA) had not stopped Hussein's takeover of Kuwait in Iraq War I, then he would have had the power to lower supply/increase demand/drive up oil prices singlehandedly. That scared the USA gov't. So it's more of an indirect fight over oil...I definitely wouldn't say "case closed".

PS: bring on the tiedyed shirts and hairy women! I sound like a full blown granola tree hugger. Someone pop in a Blind Melon CD!

Oh and just to point out, only ~23% of our oil comes from OPEC nations.

The rest is from Canada, Mexico, Nigeria, etc....

I'm just tired of the oil debate, since it really has been beaten to the ground and gets nowhere
