Hey

Possibly maybe i'll be expanding from my little project studio to a recording studio. I won't have big bucks to spend, so I still want to base my system around the saffire pro 40 which i'm very happy with, i just need 8 more inputs for some external preamps I want to buy.

So here comes the noob stuff.

I've been reading the manuals, and I figure this configuration is possible:

The Saffire Pro 40 is the audio interface, it's commucating via ADAT with the RME ADI-8 for additional IO. Then I assume i can also send the wordclock from the RME into the saffire also via ADAT (I assume the rme's clock is better..)

Anywho, does this make sense as a small recording studio configuration ?

Sure,

Im using a Saffire Pro 40 as well but I am using an ada8000 as my 2nd set of 8 channels. This should work without a problem. The issue with the ada8000 that I had was it needed to be set as the master with the Saffire as the slave. I believe on the RME it can be Master or Slave so you should not run into any issues.
