Sampled Drums Question

This may seem like a pretty nooby question, but I was thinking about buy some sample drums to record with and was just wondering how do most recording artists go about using them?
Do they record the drummer playing the song and than create a track drum by drum based on what that person played? or do they have the guitars lay down tracks and than create drums to it?
As I said this is probably an extremely nooby question but i just wanted to know! haha

I and anybody here could go on for days (no really, days) about how to use your samples. Definitely look into sample replacement software such as Slate Digital Trigger, Drumagog and Superior Drummer for a good sample library, and smaller things like aptrigga for individual sample replacement.

Read the whole manual. it's a long subject.

If you are buying superior, Steven slate or something like that, you can get the drummer to directly write on the piano roll.
If you are buying individual samples - like the LSD ones. You can mix' the drum kit and no matter how crappy it sounds you can replace the sound using a replacement software like apTrigger or Drumagog (for a detailed guide go here - http://www.ultimatemetal.com/forum/production-tips/403588-drum-samples-replacement-triggers-faq.html)

this is actually very useful!
I'm probably going to look into something like SD2.0 and some kind of digital trigger as well since I do not have the money to put down for real triggers! haha
