Scar Symmetry live performance...

WTF just happened to the melodic death metal band I knew and loved?
That fucking guitar intro:puke:

OK - it's quite obvious they're playing backline amps - so I can forgive the undergained guitars, considering that aspect, the band sounds good. And I love the growled vocals, they sound awesome!

But as a huge fan of Scar Symmetry (and I've been holding back on saying this until now, since I know that Jonas hangs out here sometimes) but I'll say it, and this performance confirms it beyond all doubt... I understand that finding a direct replacement for Christian is pretty much impossible, and can't be expected. But there has to be a better fit candidate for the clean vocals out there, especially in Sweden where talent grows on trees!

I understand totally. Jonas is a great guy and I have hung out with him and wouldn't want to be talking shit on him, but man it was a bit rough. I am sure as a festival its like you said just backlined amps. I am hoping maybe it was just a rough gig. Maybe monitoring was bad.....who knows. Just being hopeful.

For me it wasn't that bad as you guys made it.
In forums it's often like that one starts bitching, and others continue. :)
But you have to consider it's a desk recording from the live show. It's not a mixed live dvd. The vocals are dry and maybe even uncompressed.
I think if all of you had been in the crowd, with all the volume and atmosphere of an concert, you wouldn't think so bad about the performance.
And as much as I love Christians vocals, I guess he also hasn't been as good live as on the albums.
The albums are full of harmony vocals almost everywhere. And it's quite impossible to replace him. Let's wait for the album, this will be a true comparision then.

Compress it all you want, but this guy`s vocal technique is horrible.
Use your diaphragm for god`s sake! (and I don`t mean the female contraceptive thingie )

To be honest, Jonas performance is by far the best of all of them, but still I got a weird crossed feeling when watching the video...

And +1 Shane, usually amateur bands have trouble finding good singer, and end up getting singers like Lars... But for SS it would have to be easier to find another awesome singer... and as you say, in Sweden talent grows from the trees

I'm suing this band for ruining my weekend. That clean vocalist is pathetic.

You know when I first started watching this is was as disappointed as the rest of you, but you know, I think this melodic singer is better than he appears. He's gotta sing all this ridiculously high stuff that apparently Christian couldn't sing that well himself so if the vocals are more within the character/range of this guys voice on the album I don't think it'll be too bad. I'm actually more confused by the lead guitar playing... hahaha... I'm sure the new album will be worth taking a listen to though- I've always loved them for their interesting but accessible song writing and I imagine that will stay the same. Trying to be optimistic here...

I didnt even know that Christian was not in the band and this is one of my favourite bands!lol The fact is that no one ever will replace a singer like Christian. Apart from that I didnt like too much of last album.

It's not so much the actual sound Charlie, it's the performance from the band. I've seen plenty of bootlegs from other bands that sound great as well.
