Good posts everyone. Whilst I still say it's stealing to download for free, and lot of good stuff has come out of this thread. I agree the music industry was slow to adapt. I agree CDs became expensive, but you choose to click download, so passing the blame doesn't cut it. Change needs to happen, I think things could be regulated a lot more, everyone involved with a band and record company must sign confidentiality contracts and if you get busted leaking the album, you are sacked and out of the "bizz" for good. Penalties must be severe because of the money invested. Stop it before it leaks.

That makes zero difference. They release full albums a week before release to most media outlets, especially radio stations that they hope will spin the CD. Some bands don't do that. If they don't the first 'fan' that purchases it will throw it online and its all over with. You will never stop downloading, it's never going to stop unless the internet goes dead

All true indeed. If only there was a way to put some digital code that's tracable on CDs, something that can be traced to an IP if uploaded. Yes people will use laptops and other PCs it will still come back to the uploader if a "friend" receives a legal letter.

I thought the reunion shows were better. Maybe it's cuz I'm older now and jaded. Jeez, I can't believe it's been five plus years since that tour. I think Caggiano is an excellent musician/producer/guy etc. Spitz just had his way of putting his stamp on his solos. Also, I love the new album. Playing five new songs off it is not excessive in my opinion. I just don't care much for I'm Alive in the set, and I skip that track anyway when I play the album. In the End is a great song as well, it's just that with a 90 minute set it makes you spite that song choice when you think about other songs from Anthrax's classic catalogue. Especially after Death Angel and Testament just put on blistering sets. I never thought I'd say this, but I'd be happier with Bring the Noise in the set. Attack of the Killer B's I realize was a long EP, but I always considered an album. It's not getting any love on this tour. Milk or Parasite would be awesome to see Joey sing once again.

But kids growing up in the digital era really don't appreciate that part of it and will most likely never care about that stuff. It's a different world now and labels and artists have to adapt or they will die out. Youtube is the new MTV, Itunes is the new Tower Records, and Torrents/Rapidshare etc are the new bootlegging outlets.

Sad thing is, that less songs might get the chance to become classics, even if they deserve it, cause less people take the time to really listen to the music. When you have the chance to get everything for free it's not likely that you give a song another spin, if it did not catch you on the first round, you might just download other stuff.

When I was a kid I wasn't able to buy every record available, so I had a limited amount of music and so every single album had a certain value to me. I'm afraid that all this downloading just leads to the point where much music which should be remembered will be forgotten cause people do not really WORSHIP it.

Is it just coincidence that people always complain about too little classics from the vinyl-years in the setlists when bands like Anthrax, Maiden, etc. are on the road to promote their new albums? I guess not. These are the songs that they remember cause they listened to them more than once back then.

cool,the reunion shows were the first time i got to c the classic line up and it was something really special since i never thought i would ever witness that lineup,i cant wait to hear joey belting out the new tunes,anthrax are due in australia the first half of next year,would be great if they co headlined with testament,maybe testament play for hour and anthrax for hour half

Thats totally true. Most people will download the album skim through it and if it doesn't grab you right away you will move on.

Back in the day when you bought a CD or Tape you were stuck with it. Even if the album wasn't that great you would still listen to it multiple times because you own it and felt like you had to try and get something out of it.

Albums almost have to be extremely catchy now right from the get go to keep the listeners attention span. That could certainly change the way some artists write songs now days.

Not true always. I appreciate most cds mostly after I've listened to them several times. And sometimes I'll force myself to listen to a cd, even if its a band I've never heard. And then lo and behold I'm a fuckin fan! Of course, this only applies to metal. Obviously it's only the 'good' cds you'll actually get into; listening to a shit album repeatedly will never make it good. But hell, that's how I usually cross my threshold for heavyness! Now I would never take such a 'leap of faith' if the financial considerations of a tangible purchase were there.

I don't think that's what he meant. I'm the same way, I like having a product in my hand of albums I own rather then having files on a computer OR on a burned CD. And it's not just about simply wanting a product in my hand like in some mindless-consumer kind of way, I just like having the official release w/ artwork, lyrics, credits, thank you lists, etc. AND I like supporting the band. I know back in the day when I first started buying CDs, reading Thank You lists is what got me into other bands sometimes.

Also, I bet a lot less people get around to reading lyrics to albums that they download. This sucks because lyrics can really be what makes or breaks a band, and I think a lot of people overlook that, or just think lyrics don't matter that much.

Back in the day I had all my albums in clear plactice sleeves that I hung on my wall like a big shrine type of thing. It really meant something and showed your friends how much you loved your bands when they came over. Now you can show them your ipod LOL. I like the idea of supporting bands, make you feel like you are part of something. As far as I'm concerned, you cease becoming a fan if you download for free with no shame and no intent of buying the product.

This is their lively-hood - the fact that many have made good money by bringing out albums that many people are buying does not justify anyone stealing from them.

I know I don't work for free and I am sure not too many people would. If you like a band and you want them to be around to enjoy their music, then support and invest some of you hard-earned cash and buy their products.

I hear ya. At least you are still supporting your fave bands. I use itunes a lot but buy CDs and load them into itunes because I can control the quality of the sound.

I'm a bit old school and still prefer buying a CD - I have bought the occasional album or song off iTunes but usually go out and buy the CD.

Eventually I can see a complete move to digital though with perhaps limited runs of hardcopy CDs or their equivalent being the norm. Distribution and manufacturing costs of CDs compared to the ease and cheaper method of digital distribution is a no brainer from a business perspective.
