Screw caution...

Simon, you really think Candlemass would do better at ProgPower than Katatonia?

Absolutely! Don't get me wrong, I think Katatonia is great but Candlemass are great live and the vocals as some have said are very power metallish at times. While I'm going to be seeing Katatonia the week after progpower, I'll be honest in saying I don't have high hopes in terms of it being the most energetic show ever.

Interesting. Maybe I will revisit Candlemass then. I could swear to God they were very doomy, but I guess I must have confused it with another band. Any suggestions on where to start my second attempt at them?

They are doomy. I'm not gonna lie there. But I think especially if you go back to the Messiah albums, I think it's something a lot of the progpower fans would dig and a lot of their tunes aren't super slow like some tend to think when they hear "doom". "At the Gallows End" and "King of the Grey Islands" are pretty fast at times for example. Plus, the newer singer Lowe is awesome live regardless of what era he's doing. As far as trying out, "Nightfall" imo is their best album and after that, pretty much any of the Messiah albums except for the reunion record. "King of the Grey Islands" is excellent too. Doomicus is a classic but my problem with that album is the production, but it probably does have the best songs on it. I would say that one is probably the most doomy though.

Well considering Candlemass have been around since 18-diggity-doo, most people here know them well. They'd be an easy pick.

I personally enjoy Robert Lowe's other band (Solitude Aeturnus) more, and would love to have them play the Earthlink Live stage instead of Candlemass.

Or maybe those groups bOB mentions every so often like Memory Garden . . .

OK - this would generate a WTF, and could be considered an oddball band in a way but also kinda fits the festival in that they are/were considered proggy and several of the guys are somewhat legendary inthe field. The WTF moment will be generated by the reunited ASIA :)

Only if they played "Heat of the Moment" 15 times in a row. With South Park clips playing in the background. Then I'd see this.

I'm regarding this as the Official First Cryptic Hints Post from Glenn regarding next year, BTW. Future installments will include such tidbits as

-- 2 of the bands will feature violins
(snip)
-- 1 of the bands will feature a hurdy-gurdy
-- 12 of the bands will include a guitarist
-- 11 of the bands will feature a live drummer

--
This doesn't rule out the possibility of Dead Can Dance, who would otherwise be defunct . . .

Sure, all evidence points to Eluveitie , , but I'd love to see DCD again more.

I've been throwing sponsorship bids at several high slot oddballs for a couple years now. Here's praying a wetdream of mine comes true.

The one time I saw them, maybe 5-7 years ago, they weren't what you would call "energetic", but they were powerful.
