I have been a guitar player for almost twenty years. Seven or eight years ago I was one of the best players in my city. Today, I do well to play an AC/DC solo well (not that Angus sucks btw but he isn't technically gifted.) Anyway... I lost interest in modern guitar playing for years. The reason was simple... the "soul" that was once in guitar player's solos got lost and replaced with crap that was supposed to be innovative. "Phrasing" gave way to "string skipping and the like. Last year (though I just recently discovered him) that changed. Pagan's Mind released "Celestial Entrance" and Jorn Viggo Lofstat unleashed "soul" back into guitar playing. Jorn is not scared to play a simple pentatonic riff and bend a note to make it sound great, nor is he scared to pull off wicked two-handed stuff in the same solo. Any guitar fans need to buy this CD. Jorn just gave guitar playing a swift kick in the balls and everyone should listen to him. That CD also contains a couple of instrumentals.
BTW !!! Any drummers out there ? Stian will knock your ass off as well. Everything I said about Jorn being a great musician goes along with Stian. He rocks !! Check this band out !!!
