Unreal. I'm no environmentalist, but leave the fucking whales alone.

This is pretty ugly.

I think Australia needs to send it's navy down to the southern ocean & start kicking ass.

This guy (and all his crew, obviously) is one of my heroes since the day I heard about him.

I hope as hell they can fix their ship ASAP.

As you said, leave the fucking whales alone.

Was going to post on this topic as well. Whales are smarter than most people. Hunting them is barbaric and immoral.

If you disagree please do yourself a favor and google sonar's effects on whales. I promise you if you read enough on it, your views will change. These are not rabbits or deer. These mammals have complex feelings and emotions. It's like hunting babies. Don't fuck with the whales. And dolphins.

Jesus Christ. They must really be pissing off the Japanese now. I thought that after the season 2 Finale when the collided with the Japanese that they were gonna be fucked by the Government and last I heard they were losing their Dutch Flag. It's pretty fucked that they are killing Whales and claiming it as research and the Steve Irwin can do fuck all really. They might need to go south park on their asses now

Yeah, I hate hippies and even me makes this fucking furious!

Coincidentally, I was watching a video interview with Zoli from Ignite today and he is a Sea Shepherd. I didn't know that. ANd few minutes after I saw the interview, I read about this happening. I wonder if he's been on board...

What the Japanese are doing is so damn insolent!

To even put the word "RESEARCH" on these boats is pure scorn.

I bet they reaped plenty scientific knowledge from slaughtering this mother and baby:

But it's even more disgusting that no government has the balls to really attack them over that.

They need to condemn killing for research. They already can research them in a way that does not endanger them. I cant understand why they don't simply outlaw it if it's not even necessary anymore.

I'm pretty vehemently against whaling but I have no sympathy whatsoever for a bunch of dudes that go around ramming boats and throwing bottles at people who then refer to any retaliation as "unprovoked violence." If you are going to start a fight at least own the fact that that's what you're doing. The unfortunate truth is that the whalers and the environmentalists are both treading in similar legal gray area.

Again, I agree with the cause but not the method. I agree that the laws need to change, but environmentalism a la Earth Crisis lyrics does as much harm for the cause as it does good IMO. The morality of compassion can rarely be beaten into some one.

As far as the intelligence factor, It's really interesting how smart whales are but I've never considered intelligence (or cuteness) a prerequisite for the right to live.

Their methods are not the greatest, and as we've seen from the series, not truly effective, but their methods have brought the issue to the worldwide media, which really is their most powerful tool. I do agree with you though, They had the audacity to ram a Japanese ship and then call this an unprovoked attack which is madness, but they are pretty restricted in what they can do unfortunately, however crude their methods are

Last year's ramming was between similar sized vessels... the Steve Irwin vs one of the kill boats.

Today's was pretty un-even.... and it was just sitting there. Throwing stink-bombs is no justification for a ramming of that magnitude.

It was unbelievable alright that they would collide with the smaller boat, they had definite intention of destroying it, the steve irwin was trying to prevent a whale transfer in the previous incident, while here it did seem unprovoked, as you said they were just sitting there. You could even see it in the last series, the Japanese were getting more bold all the time, but this takes the cake. Are they still sailing under the dutch flag?

I laughed my ass off. Fuck these fags. If I was japanese I would totally murder these motherfuckers through the funniest way possible. Like feeding them to the whales or bears and release the video on ogrish.com

These piece of shit destroyed plenty of boats and are very proud of it, but when their little crap fag boat sinks they all cry out. I´m just gonna quote a little piece of his "reality show" press-release from the National Geographic site:

"Whaling fleets around the world know he means business. Watson has sunk eight whaling ships. To the bottom of the sea. By 1980 he'd single-handedly shut down pirate whaling in the North Atlantic by sinking the notorious pirate whaler Sierra in Portugal and two of the four ships in the Spanish whaling fleet, the Isba I and Isba II. He sank two of Iceland's whalers in Reykjavík harbor and three of Norway's whaling fleet at dockside. To his critics he says: "I don't give a damn what you think. My clients are the whales and the seals. If you can find me one whale that disagrees with what we're doing, we might reconsider."

The cited article.

Well if you're illegally hunting whales with your boat and somebody fucks up your boat, I might no agree with the sentiment of committing a crime to stop other crimes, but I'm not unhappy about the outcome either, not at all actually.

My main concern about them would be that their way of taking action would be actually harmful to the cause, but it seems like their work actually makes a (positive) difference: "By 1980 he'd single-handedly shut down pirate whaling in the North Atlantic..."

Also, their portrayal on Animal Planet is entirely up to the editing of the station, which doesn't want the most accurate representation of what's happening out there, rather the one that sells best. But still, it's making people aware of the issue...
