Seemless tracking?

This is a super basic question but for some reason, I am using reaper and I cannot figure this out. Whenever I want to record one riff at a time and link them together, it leaves this gap in between them that I cannot get rid. What would I need to do to fix this inconvenience?

Ive heard of people tracking each solo note by note or phrase by phrase and mixing it all together but for some reason I cant even get rid of this little gap in between the riffs.

Reaper has a "punch in" feature (the easy way)
but yeah, you should really read the manual

cutting & pasting (the hard way) you're gonna have to go in manually & chop that shit up...if you're good enough at keeping time you can use the snap feature & set it to a short time length.
frankly punching in is a lot easier & less time consuming, drop in a quick X fade & you're usually set
